Position Description
The Chief Financial Officer is a key thought partner and plays a critical role in partnering with the leadership team in strategic decision-making and operations at Safe Harbors. They report to the Executive Director and oversee all accounting policies and procedures, grants administration, and risk management. They lead the annual budgeting and planning process and monitor budgetary progress and changes, keeping senior leadership abreast of the organization’s financial status. The Chief Financial Officer manages organizational cash flow and forecasting, and coordinates and leads the annual audit process. They supervise and support the Accounting and Human Resources Manager.
Responsibilities
- Accounting policies and procedures following Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and in compliance with multiple regulatory agencies
- Grant administration and vouchering for Federal, State, and County grants and support for grant applications and reporting
- Accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, and bank activities
- Annual audits and coordination with external accountants
- Review of proposals and contracts
- Monthly financial reports and key metrics for Executive Director and Board of Directors
- Risk Management to include provisioning for all property and liability insurance
- Supervision of Accounting & Human Resources Manager
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or relevant field – master’s degree preferred
- A minimum of five years of experience in fiscal management
- Proficiency with accounting software (QuickBooks)
- An analytical mind with good organizational skills
- Ability to prioritize, negotiate, and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders
- Experience with low-income housing tax credit projects a plus

The organization includes the Cornerstone Residence, affordable, supportive housing for 128 adults; Ann Street Gallery, a contemporary art space; Ann Street Studios, eight artist work studios; the Lobby at the Ritz, a performance venue; Safe Harbors Green, a half-acre park; the historic Ritz Theater, which Safe Harbors is working to redevelop as a performance and event space; and two commercial tenants, 2Alices Coffee Lounge and Grit Works collaborative work/share space.
