Summary:

Streetwork Project is the oldest street outreach program for homeless and street-involved youth in New York City. The program has grown from its beginnings in 1984 as a storefront project to encompass both outreach and comprehensive harm reduction services. Streetwork’s programs are innovative outreach-counseling programs for homeless youth, which use a harm reduction, client centered, and trauma informed approach. The Assistant Director for Drop-in oversees the daily running of the drop-in program in meeting client needs and contractual obligations are met.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Learn and integrate a trauma-informed, client-centered approach, using an anti-oppressive lens, into your work with clients. Coach and guide staff in their client practice that reflects these approaches.
  • Provide high level supportive counseling, including crisis intervention and emergency assessments to individuals clients and groups;
  • Oversee Food & Nutrition Component of Drop-in
  • Collaborate with the housing and benefits advocates to help clients secure resources;
  • Enhance the clinical component of the program by strengthening staff’s ability to assess mental health needs;
  • Enhance the case management component of the program by strengthening staff’s ability to navigate external systems with their clients;
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of drop-in services and compile monthly statistics;
  • Conduct weekly one-hour individual supervision with drop-in case management staff to ensure quality of direct case management and clinical services;
  • Provide supervision to Youth Services Aides.
  • Develop and maintain policy and procedure manual in coordination with AVP Youth Programs
  • Participate in weekly supervision;
  • Co-facilitate weekly group clinical case conferencing;

Secondary Job Functions:

  • Establish linkages with external mental health and benefits providers;
  • Conduct quarterly review of client charts;
  • Support the oversight of daily program activities;
  • Perform client escorts and visits;
  • Participate at staff trainings, staff meetings, and staff group process workshops;

Required skills:

  • Extensive experience working with youth;
  • Understanding of Harm Reduction approach preferred;
  • Understanding of clinical and mental health issues affecting injection drug users;
  • Understanding of case management, advocacy, benefits and housing resources;
  • Syringe exchange experience preferred;
  • Experience with managing a case load – preferably with low-threshold clients;
  • Experience navigating external systems with clients;

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent experience. Experience providing program development, or 3 years at Streetwork.
  • Three (3) years’ experience providing staff supervision, case management, and individual counseling — preferably with at-risk youth;
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred;
  • Experience with youth and/or homeless population, utilizing harm reduction philosophy preferred;

Hiring Range: 62,000.00 – 69,750.00 Annual
