GrowNYC is a 54-year-old environmental nonprofit organization helping more than 3 million New Yorkers by providing essential services and taking action to make NYC a livable city, one where every person can enjoy a healthier, more sustainable life. GrowNYC Programs include:

  • Our network of Greenmarkets, Farmstands, and the work of GrowNYC Wholesale ensure that all New Yorkers have access to the freshest, healthiest local food.
  • We build and support community and school gardens through volunteer days, technical assistance, training, grants and more.
  • We provide 70,000 children each year with programs that provide meaningful interactions with the natural environment.

Wholesale Customer Service Specialist (Full Time)

Position Summary

The Customer Service Specialist will provide support for day to day customers needs including delivery and logistical updates, order modifications, and assisting the sales specialists with customer related requests. They are able to communicate our value proposition verbally and in writing, and share our passion and mission for supporting local and regional farms, as well as our focus on food access and delivering farmers market quality food throughout New York City. The position requires a focus on customer service, relationship building and collaboration with our operations team.

Requirements

Wholesale Customer Service Specialist Responsibilities (Include but are not limited to):

  • Support the sales team in managing and improving customer relationships
  • Communicate with customers via phone, email, and in person contact regarding product promotions, seasonality, and customer needs
  • Works across departments and other programs, including Procurement, Operations, Advancement, Communications, and Food Access & Agriculture to ensure smooth coordination and execution of all customer service initiatives
  • Guide customers through our ordering policies and processes, including using our e-commerce portal

Qualifications

  • 2 years of customer service experience
  • Excellent time management, ability to multitask and prioritize tasks
  • Strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills
  • Fluency in multiple languages is a plus

Ideal Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
  • NYC driver’s license
  • Knowledge of food policy, sustainable local agriculture/farming, food systems, food access, and/or food justice
  • Fluency in multiple languages is a plus

Schedule

Tuesday – Friday (8am-4pm) and Saturday (7am-3pm). This position is full-time and year-round with an expected weekly workload of 35-40 hours per week with a 1 hour unpaid meal break each work day.

Compensation

This is a non-exempt full-time salaried position. It pays $55,000 – $60,000 annually and includes full benefits (medical, dental, vision, life insurance, long-term disability, paid time off, Public Service Loan Forgiveness, and potential for parental leave for full-time regular employees who have been employed with GrowNYC for 175 days and FSA programs). This position is union eligible.

Location

This is a hybrid role including 2 days remote and 3 days from another GrowNYC work location (either at our Bronx Hub or at our downtown Manhattan office), including mandatory presence on Wednesdays at the downtown office. This role may occasionally require off-site field visits to customer/partner sites.
