Overview
Film Forum, an internationally recognized nonprofit cinema located in Lower Manhattan, seeks a pro-active, detail-oriented Bookkeeper. Successful candidates will be well organized, comfortable with standard accounting tasks, and have strong interpersonal communication skills. The office is small & friendly, but is a fast-paced and professional environment. This full-time position reports to the Director of Finance, and also works with many departments in the organization.
Responsibilities:
- Handling accounts payable and receivable
- Entering daily sales activity, and balancing deposits
- Analyzing and reporting of daily box office grosses
- Monthly reconciliations of box office grosses
- Recording journal entries
- Reconciling credit card activity with merchant services
- Reconciling monthly bank statements
- Managing contributions, membership, gift cards accounts, and reconciling with those departments monthly
- Assisting in annual audit preparation (July – August)
- Entering payroll and taxes and analyzing payroll account
- Preparing year-end tax reporting
- Analyzing and balancing General Ledger accounts
- Maintaining vendor records, and filing
- Produce financial settlement reports for films
- Corresponding with film distributors and other vendors
- Administrative support to the Finance Department
Qualifications:
- Minimum 2-4 years of accounting or bookkeeping experience; production or nonprofit accounting, a plus.
- Proficiency required in QuickBooks and Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel
- Hard-working, accurate and detail-oriented, with initiative
- Knowledge of Customer Relationship Manager databases a plus; Film Forum uses Tessitura
- Self-motivated with initiative
- Ability to think systematically to find ways to improve financial operations and to create automated systems and processes to make financial reporting more efficient
- Excellent communication skills and collaborative attitude
