Job description:
AAANY is seeking a highly motivated and energetic Director of Capacity Building & Development who will spearhead all development and capacity-building efforts for the organization. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Capacity Building & Development is responsible for (1) devising and implementing AAANY’s annual fundraising plans, including spearheading fundraising events; (2) leading communications projects; and 3) spearheading strategic efforts to increase the capacity of the organization and its staff.
Development Responsibilities
- Design, execute, and monitor a fundraising plan that aims to diversify AAANY’s funding sources;
- Secure financial support from individuals, foundations and corporations;
- Create and guide a new strategy for building a large, engaged base of individual donors;
- Conduct prospect research and prepare and submit all grant proposals;
- Collaborate with Director of Programs and frontline staff to prepare and submit program reports;
- Help Director of Finance and Operations prepare and execute contracts as needed;
- Represent AAANY at stakeholder and funder meetings and citywide events as needed;
- Lead the planning and management of fundraising events; and
- Perform other related duties as needed
Communications Responsibilities
- Provide strategic oversight and vision for all communications efforts;
- Supervise and support the Communications Manager, ensuring that they effectively:
- Develop and implement AAANY’s communications strategy;
- Manage AAANY’s social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram);
- Create publication materials and resources aligned with AAANY’s branding (newsletters, e-blasts, brochures, press kits, annual reports, etc.);
- Write and distribute press releases;
- Manage AAANY’s website; and
- Work with Advocacy and Civic Engagement team on messaging and social media campaigns.
Capacity-Building Responsibilities
- Help administer and manage key AAANY programs, including our PATH Forward program;
- Work with the Executive Director to facilitate professional development opportunities for other team members;
- Work closely with Executive Director and the Finance and Operations Manager to monitor the financial performance of the organization;
- Oversee the expansion of AAANY’s donor and client database; and
- Perform other related duties as needed.
Qualifications
- Strong writing, project management, and organizational skills
- Familiarity with NYC’s philanthropic and political landscape
- 4+ years of experience in nonprofit management or development a plus
- Proficiency in Arabic a plus
