Overview

Harlem Educational Activities Fund (HEAF) is a comprehensive supplemental education and youth development organization that works to help motivated students develop the intellectual curiosity, academic ability, social values, and personal resilience they need to ensure success in school, career, and life. Using a variety of afterschool, Saturday, and summer programs, HEAF identifies scholars in middle school and supports them until they are admitted to and graduate from four-year colleges.

Position Description:

HEAF seeks a high-energy, dynamic, and organized professional to oversee the development, planning, and implementation of comprehensive youth development programs for youth in our afterschool and summer programs. Our Youth Development programming, often a favorite for students, works with young people starting in middle school through high school and into college and with families to provide social-emotional and youth leadership enrichment through afterschool and Saturday programs.

Our ideal candidate can engage students, families, and community partners and has high expectations for quality and a desire for continuous improvement in their practice. He/she is a life-long learner who shares our sense of urgency in helping youth attain academic achievement and personal growth. This position reports to the Senior Director of Programs.

 Schedule:

Academic Year 2021- 2022 (Hybrid) Monday- Friday 11 am-7 pm

Traditionally: Tuesday- Saturday 11 am-7 pm

July 1-August 31: Monday – Friday 10:00 am – 6:00 pm

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Program Leadership:

●     Create a cohesive multi-year curriculum that promotes social-emotional competence for middle school, high school, and college students.

●     Hire, train, supervise, and support youth development coordinators, facilitators, and interns.

●     Organize group retreats and parent workshops for middle school, high school, and college students and their families by engaging external partners and stakeholders.

●     Lead professional development workshops on youth development best practices and connect with other practitioners for continued learning and partnership.

●     Conduct weekly individual and group counseling sessions with a referral program for long-term services

●     Prepare program budgets and administrative functions.

Corporate and Community Engagement:

●     Develop and build community connections with organizations such as Columbia School of Social Work, Mt. Sinai Youth Adolescent Clinic, and the Student Success Network

●     Work with HEAF programs departments to assess student’s and family’s needs

●     Conduct monthly site visits to HEAF sites: Brooklyn (Bedford Stuyvesant/Erasmus and Elmhurst-Queen)

●     Assist with HEAF’s annual Welcome Back Picnic

Qualifications and Job Requirements:

●     Master of Social Work degree with license and SIFI certification (Required)

●     Minimum of 2 years post-grad experience working with youth and program management.

●     Strong knowledge and familiarity with positive youth development, growth mindset, and social-emotional learning.

●     Working knowledge of best practices in conflict resolution, behavior management, classroom management, and crisis management skills

●     Strong analytic, data-driven, group facilitation, and curriculum development skills

●     Previous supervision experience of full-time, part-time, and/or intern staff

●     Bi-lingual Spanish speaking and writing skills (preferred)

HEAF Vaccination Policy:

We require all HEAF new hires to be vaccinated and boosted against COVID-19 before their start date.

Compensation: $70k – 80K Annually
