Position: Benefits Advocate
Program: Renewal House
Salary: $40,000 per year
Program Description:
Renewal House provides transitional housing to 50 individuals who have a history of substance use. Renewal House is funded by OASAS and works to provide clients with skills that will support them in more independent housing in the future. Renewal House is a 24/7 facility.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The essential duties of the Benefits Advocate include but are not limited to the following activities:
· An interest working with people who have been homeless and who are likely to be experiencing or have experienced addiction, trauma, physical, and mental health issues
· A patient, cooperative, non-judgmental stance
· Thorough independent research. Applicants must be able to seek out, make sense of, and accurately apply large bodies of information, including laws and policy documents
· Clear, effective verbal and written communication with diverse audiences
· The ability to seek and use supervision
· The ability to understand and maintain professional boundaries
· Excellent time management skills, accountability to deadlines, and the ability to see both short- and long-term projects through to completion.
· Providing tenants with information and direction on acquiring and maintaining entitlements with city, state, and federal entitlement programs
· Ongoing monitoring of entitlements correspondence and record keeping
· Off-site advocacy and collateral contact with entitlements agencies
· Participation in weekly staff meetings to coordinate services and manage client entitlements issues
· Other duties as assigned by Director and supervisory staff
Qualifications:
· All applicants must have an AA or AS
· Excellent oral, writing and listening skills
· Bilingual or multilingual a plus
All newly hired Project Renewal staff must provide verification of being fully vaccinated against Covid-19.
