Intro/Program Description: The Goddard Riverside Community Center (Goddard Riverside) and the Stanley M. Isaacs Center (Isaacs Center) are well-established Manhattan community-based agencies with a combined annual operating budget of approximately $63 million that support services to approximately 30,000 New Yorkers. Goddard Riverside and The Isaacs Center are two of New York City’s leading human services organizations meeting the needs of children, youth and families, homeless individuals, and older adults throughout Manhattan and New York City.

Purpose of Position: The Medical Director is responsible for delivering direct and comprehensive psychiatric care for the ACT team and supportive/transitional housing clients which includes prescribing medications and completing psychiatric evaluations. The position will also be responsible for overseeing the operation and success of the medical and psychiatric services at the agency.

Schedule: 30 hours per week, flexible days

Goddard Riverside and Isaacs Center follow the CDC and NYS recommendations to prevent the spread of COVID-19, and are now requiring all new hires to be vaccinated against COVID-19 unless they have a qualified exemption. 

1) Medical Director responsibilities

  • Provide medical and psychiatric guidance to medical/psychiatric staff
  • Review current and develop medical and psychiatric policies and procedures as needed for each program
  • Evaluate and help direct the coordination of medical/psychiatric services of the ACT team and
  • supportive and transitional housing sites
  • Provide psychoeducational training for medical and social service staff
  • Provide monthly, quarterly, and or annually any and all required reports, assessments and
  • evaluations in conjunction with the program directors as needed for each program

2) ACT team psychiatric responsibilities

  • Provide psychiatric treatment to clients
  • Conduct monthly psychiatric sessions with each client
  • Prescribe medication when appropriate and Document client medications
  • Complete psychiatric evaluations as needed
  • Assess psychiatric and medical status of clients
  • Complete required paperwork following program guidelines
  • Communicate with clients’ families about their needs and progress
  • Serve as liaison to other service providers
  • Visit clients in residential facilities, on the street and in other locations
  • Be available by telephone after hours and on weekends to assist the team with urgent client
  • intervention Are there any parameters around on call telephone access?
  • Communicate with RN, Pharmacies, and Insurance carriers about client prescriptions

3) Participate as an ACT team member

  • Attend staff meetings, case conferences, monthly medical team meetings, and training programs to upgrade skills and knowledge
  • Attend supervision meetings to review client progress and case management strategies

4) Supportive Housing Medical and Psychiatric Responsibilities

  • Communicate with social service staff any medication or health changes
  • Administer medications, injections, and treatments
  • Prescribe and document medication when appropriate
  •  Assess psychiatric and medical status of clients
  • Complete psychiatric evaluations as needed
  • Coordination of care with tenants’ providers and local pharmacy
  • Conduct home visits to provide in-home care for clients who are home-bound
  • Assess acutely ill clients and determine appropriateness of emergency services
  • Assess for COVID-19 related illness and triage appropriate treatment and invention
  • Coordinate with treatment centers such as Emergency Rooms, Hospitals, and Rehabilitation Centers for treatment and discharge planning
  • Collaborate with on-site NP, RN, community physicians and case managers to ensure optimal treatment plan for clients
  • Documents patient care services by charting in patient records and supporting data tracking and analysis
  • Provide education to clients regarding chronic illness management and prevention.
  • Track and maintain medical supply inventory

5) Other duties as required Qualifications/Educational Requirements

  • Licensed Physician and completed a psychiatric residency in an accredited residency program
  • Experience working with the seriously and persistently mentally ill population
  • Driver’s License preferred
  • Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should be:
  • Able to work in the Microsoft Office Suite, should especially be proficient in Word and Outlook
  • Able to use or learn to use AWARDS database
  • Able to use or learn other electronic databases, programs, and funder-related software as needed
