As the network’s largest partner, AFS-USA works to increase the global competency of U.S. citizens by providing a variety of international and intercultural learning experiences to individuals, families, schools, and communities. We are proud of our Staff from our national office in New York City as well as home offices across the county, who collaborate with our more than 2,000 AFS-USA Volunteers to deliver high quality programs and global education resources. These include immersion-based study abroad experiences in over 40 countries worldwide; opportunities to host foreign AFS exchange students; and global learning workshops and curricula for educators, schools and businesses.

The Junior HR Generalist will provide support to the HR team.  This position carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: Talent Acquisition, Benefits, On-Boarding, Off-Boarding, HRIS, and Data Integrity. The Junior HR Generalist should be able to effectively support and communicate with an in-office as well as remote employee population.

This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.

DUTIES/RESONSIBILITIES: 

  • Assist in the Talent Acquisition process by creating job postings, scheduling interviews, and corresponding with candidates
  • Assist in the onboarding process by running background checks, sending offer letters, preparing new hire emails, and informing various stakeholders of new hire arrivals
  • Conduct new hire and benefit orientation for employees
  • Follow up with employees on any outstanding compliance, payroll, or benefit documentation
  • Ensure employees are correctly enrolled in the appropriate benefit plans in a timely manner
  • Assist in the leave of absence management process
  • Manage the integrity of employee files both physical and digital
  • Prepare payroll notes for our Payroll & Benefit Specialist on a bi-weekly basis
  •  Filter and respond to HR inquiries (verbal, written and electronic), as appropriate i.e. employment verifications.
  • Conduct exit interviews for seasonal and temporary departing employees
  • Audit Paycom data integrity to ensure we have accurate records of active employees, terminated employees, EEO-1 category, and Worker’s Compensation codes.
  • Monitors the performance review process and annual training requirements ensuring that employee performance reviews and required annual trainings are completed in a timely manner
  • Posts general employee information and health & wellness newsletter on SharePoint.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in fields such as Human Resources, Psychology, Business Administration, or similar field. Relevant experience will also be considered
  • 2+ years of experience in Human Resources
  • Proficient in MS Office
  • Paycom experience preferred
  • Ability to work both collaboratively in a team environment and independently with multiple deadlines in a fast-paced, fluid environment
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to take initiative and consider opportunities to improve upon current processes
  • Working knowledge of multiple facets of HR including but not limited to reporting, time management, HRIS data management, data integrity
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills plus attention to detail in all forms
  • Experience or a high level of comfort presenting to groups

WORK EXPECTATIONS:

This is a full-time position with a 35 hour work week. This position requires in-office attendance during business days, Monday – Friday.
