The mission of BUGS is to provide a hands-on, interdisciplinary education to young adolescents of all abilities and backgrounds, with a focus on real-world problem solving and the exploration of environmental, economic, and social sustainability. BUGS students will excel in the core academic subjects and become engaged community members who are critical thinkers prepared to achieve excellence in high school and beyond. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Develop knowledge and understanding of prioritized skills in ELA and Mathematics.
- Provide push-in and pull-out instruction to at-risk students based on their academic data. .
- Support teachers with
- creating supplemental curriculum,
- implementing pedagogical practices,
- maintaining learning environment, and
- scaffolding assessments
- Maintain records for each student’s individual and academic instructional program.
- Facilitate frequent and effective home-school communication by coordinating: conferences; written communication; other meetings/events; and administrative support for interpreting, translations, etc.
- Participate in in-service and teacher training.
- Meet with your supervisor at regular intervals.
- Periodic walk-throughs with supervisor using the BUGS Learning Environment Checklist.
- Align ELL curriculum to Interdisciplinary Sustainability Competencies and grade level Interdisciplinary Sustainability Themes .
- Assist the student recruitment department with ELL student recruitment as needed.
- Provide support with administering school-wide and state assessments.
Selection Criteria:
- Valid New York State Special Education certification, highly preferred
- New York State Teaching certification, required
- Three years of teaching experience, highly preferred
- Bachelor Degree required
- Experienced in planning and teaching academic interventions in Literacy and/or Math
- Previous experience in implementing Orton Gillingham, Wilson Reading System, or Leveled Literacy Intervention
- Experience in implementing support around computation, number sense, and building mathematical vocabulary
- Desire to work in a classroom with a range of ability levels and students of diverse socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds
- Commitment to collaboration, sustainability, continuous professional growth, and student achievement
- Proven track record in data collection and corresponding student achievement
- Experience using Renaissance Learn Platform (STAR Math/Reading)
- Familiarity with the Desmos Math curriculum a plus
