Senior Director Child Advocacy Center, Staten Island

Summary: 

Responsible for the overall management of the Child Advocacy Center (CAC) and facility, comprised of approximately 40- 50 staff from Safe Horizon and members of the on-site multidisciplinary team (NYPD, ACS, Prosecutors, and Medical). As such, the Senior Director has senior management and leadership responsibilities within the realm of the CAC, while also operating as a member of Safe Horizon’s leadership team.

 Responsibilities:

Collaborate with Safe Horizon’s leadership and the leadership of the CAC partner agencies to achieve the following:

  • Learn and integrate a trauma-informed, client-centered approach, using an anti-oppressive lens, into your work with clients. Coach and guide staff in their client practice that reflects these approaches.
  • Provide vision, oversight and strategic leadership to Safe Horizon CAC staff, the CAC Multi-disciplinary Team Leaders and the Multidisciplinary Team at the borough level in the development and implementation of CAC policies, procedures and services aligned with Safe Horizon and CAC national and New York State Program Accreditation standards.
  • Lead the CAC staff and MDT in advancing anti-racist, trauma-informed and client-centered practices in all facets of the CAC operations. 
  • Oversee CAC MDT case coordination activities including the types of cases handled by the CAC, the facilitation of multidisciplinary case planning meetings and individual case consultations to ensure that child victims and impacted family members receive a timely, thorough, and coordinated expert response.
  • Participate in the citywide CAC Interagency Operating Committee and related workgroups to inform and advance standardized CAC services, policies, and procedures.
  • Provide direct supervision to the Supervising Clinical Forensic Specialist, MDT Coordinator and Administrative Coordinator.
  • Oversee the timely and accurate entry of data into CMS- Safe Horizon’s primary case tracking system, Collaborate- the NYS OCFS case tracking system.
  • Assume a lead role in hiring passionate, expert, qualified CAC staff, and providing on-going guidance, consultation and training to promote retention, professional development and a healthy work environment.
  • Provide fiscal oversight and management of the CAC program budget, in coordination with Safe Horizon’s Finance Team and participate in monthly variance meetings.
  • Assume a lead role in managing the on-site delivery of medical services provided by Northwell Staten Island Hospital Medical Center.
  • Ensure that all public and private contract objectives are achieved, and that associated reports are completed accurately and in accordance with required timeframes.
  • Assume a lead role in maintaining and expanding relationships with Staten Island elected officials, community-based organizations, hospitals and other key CAC stakeholders and supporters.
  • Promote Safe Horizon’s thought leadership initiatives and represent Safe Horizon and the CAC at local, state and national conferences, public hearings, state and local taskforces, community forums and through media appearances in coordination with Safe Horizon’s Marketing & Communications Dept. 
  • Assist Safe Horizon’s Development Department in achieving annual CAC fundraising goals. 
  • Inform annual CAC training plans to increase competencies and skills for Safe Horizon staff and the CAC multidisciplinary team members. 
  • Participate in weekly supervision and bi-weekly CAC leadership team meetings. 
  • Oversee the array of Safe Horizon’s forensic, mental health and victim support and advocacy services. Provides trauma-focused, clinical leadership, vision and expert consultation to CAC staff and the multi-disciplinary team (MDT), on all aspects of direct service operations- from the point of entry and throughout the investigative process as child victims and impacted family members access the continuum of services offered by the CAC.  
  • As needed, attend and facilitate clinical group supervision and observations of staff providing direct client services in accordance with the CAC quality supervision plan 
  • Provide expert clinical consultation to MDT partners, including child protection, law enforcement, prosecution and medical professionals, to ensure that the investigation is well coordinated, the family is kept informed, and the child’s needs are being met in a child-focused, trauma-informed manner ;
  • Responsible for leading practice enhancement & staff development initiatives including assessing training needs, coordinating internal and external training sessions and ensuring staff participation in agency led training;
  • In coordination with the MDT Coordinator and clinical team ensure coordination and facilitation of regularly scheduled Case Planning and Case Review meetings.
  • When necessary, assist in direct client work -conducting forensic interviews, victim support & advocacy and/or CFTSI sessions;
  • Complete performance reviews for all direct reports in a timely manner;
  • Provide court testimony in those cases pursuant to judicial subpoena, as required;
  • Utilize client data to inform supervisory sessions and service delivery enhancements.

Qualifications: 

  • An advanced clinical degree with licensure required.
  • Senior management experience preferred.
  • Ability to provide strategic leadership, expert consultation, and management to a diverse, multi-disciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated commitment to advancing Safe Horizon’s anti-racist work and competencies in leading a diverse staff and MDT.
  • Excellent interpersonal, diplomacy, and conflict-resolution skills required. 
  • Significant experience and passion for working with child survivors of abuse and trauma and their impacted family members. 
  • Prior experience providing clinical supervision required and supervising on an evidence based treatment preferred.
  • Strong writing and public speaking skills needed.
  • Proficiency in foundational computer skills 
  • Ability to manage and organize multiple projects, working within a fast-paced, pressured work environment is essential.
  • Prior experience in forensic interviewing or a willingness to develop expertise.
