Sanctuary for Families is New York’s leading service provider and advocate for survivors of domestic violence, sex trafficking and related forms of gender violence. Every year, Sanctuary empowers thousands of adults and children to move from fear and abuse to safety and stability, transforming lives through a comprehensive range of services. We provide a range of wrap-around services to help survivors rebuild their lives in the aftermath of abuse, and work to end gender violence through three key strategies: direct services, outreach and training, and systems-change advocacy. Our services are available in 11 locations throughout New York City.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Manager of Individual Giving will serve as a key member of the individual giving team and an active participant in making strategic decisions as we grow this critical revenue base for Sanctuary’s work. In conjunction with the Director of Individual Giving & Special Events, they will manage a large and growing portfolio of over $3.5 million in individual giving and will be responsible for developing strategies for cultivating solicitation and stewardship of individual donors and family foundations.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategy and Engagement
· In collaboration with the Director of Individual Giving and Development & Communications, develop engagement strategies and goals for individual donors, emphasizing major donors.
· Work with the Director of Individual Giving to manage the prospect pipeline and moves management program.
· Maintain a portfolio of donors and serve as manager for approximately 100 individuals in the $1,000 – $5,000 range.
· Generally engage with donors through written correspondence, telephone contact, personal face-to-face contact, email and other mailings.
· Prepare written materials, including reports and proposals for individual supporters
· Develop and operationalize the stewardship plan for major donors, including preparing notes for the Executive Director’s discussions with donors.
· In collaboration with the Senior Manager of Special Events, create events to advance donor engagement and manage or facilitate smaller cultivation events as needed.
Campaigns
· In collaboration with the Director of Individual Giving and the Director of Development, develop strategy and oversee the Annual Appeal ($1 million + year-end giving campaign), including strategies for growth and solicitor engagement.
· Independently manage smaller campaigns for specific programs (e.g. Camp Hope, Back to School, Mother’s Day, etc.)
· Oversee Sanctuary’s monthly donor program, including growth and segmented communications strategies.
Tracking Performance
· Monitor performance around retention, increased support and outreach to current donors and prospects.
· Prepare annual revenue and expense projections for individual giving campaigns; review and assess projections on a regular basis.
· Oversee tracking of donor engagement in Raisers Edge
· Perform other department or related duties or special projects as directed by the Director of Individual Giving and the Director of Development & Communications.
- Bachelor’s degree and at least 4-6 years of development experience at a comparably sized organization, with a focus on major donors (social services sector preferable)
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
- Exceptional interpersonal skills (with the ability to work well with a wide range of people) and sense of humor
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills
- Very strong managerial skills
- Ability to work independently and make, enforce, and meet deadlines
- Ability to work under pressure, prioritize, and multi-task
- Flexible schedule to accommodate evening meetings
- Facility with Outlook, Word, and Excel required; Raiser’s Edge preferred
- Strong commitment to the mission and goals of Sanctuary for Families
Budgeted Salary: $65,000-$70,000
The work position is hybrid.
Vaccination Policy: Proof of vaccination or proof of the first dose with scheduled 2nd dose within 30 days is required.
