Overview
Harlem Educational Activities Fund (HEAF) is a comprehensive supplemental education and youth development organization that works to help motivated students develop the intellectual curiosity, academic ability, social values, and personal resilience they need to ensure success in school, career, and life. HEAF identifies scholars in middle school and supports them until they graduate from a four-year college through various after-school, Saturday, and summer educational and youth development programs.
Position Description:
HEAF seeks a vibrant and dynamic Director to oversee all college-related aspects of the HEAF continuum. This includes working with HEAF students in grades 12 and above. Our ideal candidate would serve as a college and persistence advisor, implementing and directing student retention and student success programs to increase retention, retention, and completion. The Onward directors should have a broad understanding of practical high school counseling skills, partnership management, lesson planning, and workshop leadership, as well as the ability to promote HEAF’s positive reputation and mission. Additionally, our ideal candidate must have a thorough understanding of the various college application forms and be able to assist students in obtaining the required documentation for the college application and matriculation process.

Schedule:
Academic Year: Monday- Friday 11 am – 7 pm
Traditionally: Tuesday- Saturday 11 am – 7 pm
July 1-August 31: Monday – Friday 10:00 am – 6:00 pm
Occasionally, some Saturdays for special events
Location: Manhattan (Harlem) 2090 Adam Clayton Powell Blvd.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Programming Planning and Management:
Overseeing the planning, implementation of programs, and success of the HEAF Onward department.
Coach graduating seniors about the college application process, both in one-on-meetings and group sessions;
Organize and plan college visits and admission workshops in person and virtually;
Assist students in finalizing their college list, managing the application process, completing financial aid forms, identifying and applying for scholarships, and assessing matriculation options and award packages.
Focus on student matriculation support at the end of the school year.
Liaise with school officials and parents/guardians through each phase of the college application process.
Maintain a record of student progress during all stages of the college application process.
The Director also ensures the planning and fostering of monthly events and activities for students and families, leading college trips, or assisting with other program-wide events.
Ensuring part-time staff is supported, supervised, and kept on task throughout the school year.
Assist in maintaining a positive and healthy rapport with partnered school personnel.
Ensure curriculum is aligned with HEAF’s academic, social, and emotional development goals.
Manage and advise the college application and financial aid process for all HEAF high school seniors, including developing personal essays and other application work, building balanced college lists, and managing the submission of all necessary application and financial aid materials
Coordinate with guidance counselors at each partnered high school to effectively manage the process for each graduating senior.
Develop and implement Transition to College Curriculum
Communicate regularly with management staff about data, planning, and part-time staff performance.
Participation in and feedback on company growth, plans, execution, and expansion-related new ideas.
Administrative & Data Management:
· Manage the program database; Salesforce
· Collect data and compile program reports.
· Support database management:
· Ensure timely entry of all program data
· Monitor and report on student progress, academic performance, and attendance
· Ensure students meet HEAF academic/attendance requirements
· Generate written weekly program reports and other reports as requested by other departments
· Collaborate with high schools and parents to obtain student report cards and transcripts
· Analyze data to determine outcomes and areas for growth and improvement
Qualifications and Job Requirements:
• Masters Degree or Certification Preferred: Social Work, Education, Counseling, Public Administration, Higher Education, or similar
• Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
• Strong judgment and decision-making skills
• Flexibility — Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced and changing educational environment.
• Dedication to serving our students and families, staff, and partnered schools towards the shared objective of empowering individuals through access to and affordability of higher education.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, and Word. Proficient in Google Docs.
• Experience with teaching and college counseling, especially with at-risk populations, for at least one year after college is highly preferable
• Familiarity with the college application and financial aid process, including knowledge of SUNY/CUNY/NYS Opportunity Programs and the FASFA/CSS Profile/TAP, Common Core, and 21st Century Skills
• Exceptional communication, Interpersonal, organizational, and written skills
• Extensive planning skills and execution of planned events are essential.
• Minimum of 3 years of managerial experience
• Ability to track and analyze data and present outcomes
• Experience working with adolescents
• Proficiency in multiple project management and budgeting

Compensation: $70k, Annually
