Our mission is to provide quality, comprehensive services to children and families, to help them achieve a greater degree of social competence in dealing with their present environment and their later responsibilities in school and life.
Cook Position Description
La Peninsula is looking for a skilled person to fill a Cook/Cook Helper vacancy at one of our
locations. The Cook/Cook Helper is responsible for assisting the Head Cook with preparing meals for children enrolled within the Head Start program. He/she uses established guidelines and procedures to better meet their nutritional needs.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Assisting with the purchasing the necessary supplies and foods for preparing meals and snacks in accordance with Head Start Performance Standards and Child Adult Care Food Program (CACFP)
- Monitoring food allergies/dietary conditions of children and preparing food accordingly
- Ensuring that meals are prepared on schedule
- Performing food inventory and food ordering for items needed
- Maintaining daily refrigeration temperature logs and other temperature logs as necessary
- Washing and sanitizing utensils, dishes, equipment and food storage areas thoroughly
- Completing all paperwork according to Head Start and CACFP guidelines and regulations
- Maintaining a safe and sanitary kitchen environment
- Maintaining proper hygiene and dress requirements for Food Service employees
- Participates in team meetings, required In-Services, and all cook trainings
Qualifications
- **This is a physically demanding position; therefore; the candidate must be able to stand for long periods of time as well as lift and move heavy objects**
- Ability to read and write English; preparation of reports and correspondence as needed
- Ability to perform basic math
- Ability to solve practical problems
- Ability to work as a positive team member
- Ability to perform duties using proper cooking techniques and skills
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED (minimum)
- Must have the NYC Dept of Health Food Protection Certificate
