Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) is a multi-disciplinary arts center located in Brooklyn, New York. For more than 150 years, BAM has been the home for adventurous artists, audiences, and ideas—engaging both global and local communities. With world-renowned programming in theater, dance, music, opera, film, and much more, BAM showcases the work of emerging artists and innovative modern masters.
The Communications Coordinator is an integral part of the Brand Storytelling and Communications Team and reports to the Associate Director of Storytelling and Impact and Engagement and Director of Brand Storytelling and Communications. This role is key in providing administrative support for the department to ensure that the department functions in a productive and efficient manner. A successful candidate will bring a strong eye for details and an enthusiastic interest in connecting BAM’s artistic mission to the Brooklyn Community and beyond.
Responsibilities:
- Provide administrative support for the department, including organizing, filing and maintaining press materials
- Act as primary contact for general inquiries made to the Storytelling and Communications department and monitor and distribute media inquiries daily
- Coordinate press ticketing and seating utilizing Tessitura software
- Distribute press tickets and represent the communications department on-site at BAM events and programs
- Supervise on-site photography/broadcast shoots
- Clip, distribute, and archive press articles, photos, and reviews
- Manage the department database and subscriptions
- Draft press materials for select BAM events
- Manage Communications Intern when applicable
- Proofread and copy edit press materials when needed
- Gather, assemble, and distribute weekly publicity roundups
- Participate in departmental brainstorming and strategy meetings, and draft content as assigned
Priority Experience and Skills:
- Understanding of anti-racism principles and practices coupled with a dedication to furthering how social media and communications can contribute to this work
- Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field and/or practical working equivalent
- Previous performing arts admin or publicity experience preferred
- Strong interest in the performing arts and publicity
- Strong organizational skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong familiarity with MS Office, Outlook, and Google Suite
- Some knowledge of database management – SalesForce, Meltwater, and Tessitura required
Working Conditions: Ability to sit and stand for prolonged periods of time. Ability to lift up to 15 pounds. Ability to work remotely and on site as needed.
Compensation: This position is full-time and non-exempt position represented by the UAW 2110 Union. The salary for this position is $49,235 and will be paid in accordance with the UAW 2110 Collective Bargaining Agreement.
