WHAT YOU WILL DO

As the Assistant Program Manager – Career Programs, you will serve as a key member of the Scholar & Alumni Success team. You will work with the Program Manager, Scholar & Alumni Success, to develop and deliver A Better Chance’s career-readiness programming. A Better Chance works with Scholars and families all over the country. This position requires occasional work outside of traditional 9 am – 5 pm work hours, and often involves supporting other teams to support the greater organization. 

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but are not limited to)

Work With Students:

• Facilitate and/or organize career-readiness workshops for A Better Chance Scholars

• Engage in one-on-one career coaching sessions with A Better Chance Scholars

• Facilitate and/or organize workshops for small groups of low-to-moderate-income (LMI) and first-generation students

Event Management:

• Manage the execution of A Better Chance’s annual Career Week, a week of career-readiness workshops 

• Manage the execution of A Better Chance’s annual Summer Opportunities Fair

Partnership Management:

• Work with A Better Chance corporate partners to provide Scholars with career-readiness workshops

• Work with A Better Chance non-profit partners to provide Scholars with career-readiness workshops

General Organizational Support:

• Track and manage Scholar and programmatic data

• Read and score A Better Chance applications

• Travel (20%) to key A Better Chance markets to meet and support A Better Chance Scholars and families

• Other duties as assigned

WHO WE ARE SEEKING

• Bachelor’s degree required 

• Experience facilitating in-person, hybrid, and virtual youth-focused workshops 

• Experience planning and managing virtual, hybrid, and in-person youth-focused events 

• Knowledge of career development and career readiness 

• Excellent and demonstrated skills in writing, communication, and time management

• Experience in working with and interacting with high-school students, families, and college-aged students from diverse backgrounds

• Demonstrated passion and history of working across teams

• Experience working collaboratively with outside partners 

• Excited about supporting a growing and evolving team

• Technical skills – Microsoft Office Suite, Canva, database management

• Excited and able to travel throughout the year (about 20% of the time)  

• Demonstrated belief in A Better Chance’s mission 

• Experience working one-on-one with youth; facilitation experience; student support experience; or counseling experience preferred

• Experience in application reading preferred

Since we view our Scholars and families as our primary constituents, we pay special attention to what they tell us.
