Overview

The Art Students league of New York (the “League”) is looking for an experienced Staff Accountant to work closely with the Director of Finance and the Controller in the daily functioning of the Finance Department.

The Art Students League maintains a fully automated accounting department, with several software programs that integrate to perform the functions of bookkeeping, accounting, and reporting. This position is responsible for ensuring the timeliness and accuracy of the entries and coding to various components of this system. This includes Accounts Receivable, which includes the management of the merchant accounts for credit cards and the GL interface, reconciling coding to budgeted categories, analyzing and reviewing all Asset accounts, including the reconciliation of the main operating bank accounts, processing secondary payrolls, maintaining employee records, and entering entries into the Intacct accounting system.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage Cash Receipts and Accounts Receivable processes including merchant accounts for credit cards.
  • Manage Accounts Payable software including Bill.com and Nexonia credit cards.
  • Assist in bank reconciliation, including reconciling cash receipt in all payment types.
  • Manage petty cash banking activities and record related entries.
  • Record, prepare, and pay sales tax.
  • Interface Student Registration System, Art Store System, Raiser’s Edge System and Cafeteria System to General Ledger
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts, prepare journal entries, and assist in month-end closing.
  • Provide support for the annual audit and Form 990 preparation.
  • Additional duties may be assigned, depending on available time and experience.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Degree(s) Required: Bachelor’s degree with a major in accounting.

Years of Experience: Minimum of 3 years as an accountant, preferred.

Industry or Product Knowledge: Non-profit accounting and working knowledge of Sage Intacct, Raiser’s Edge and Paycom is highly desired.

Computer Experience: Excel and MS Word skills required.

Core Skills/Abilities: Strong analytical, problem-solving and report-analysis skills.

Required: Working knowledge of non-profit financial statements; Ability to collaborate effectively with people at all levels of the organization; the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

Additional Skills: Knowledge and passion for the fine arts a plus.

BENEFITS:

This salary for this position will range from $54,000 – $58,000, based on a candidate’s background and experience. In addition, this position is eligible for the League’s full range of benefits, including health insurance and 401(k) plans, as well as other fringe benefits offered through The Art Students League of New York.
