Overview

The Painter will perform routine to moderately complex surface preparation, painting, and finishing tasks, applying a variety of methods, media, and techniques to both interior and exterior surfaces.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Applies paints, sealers, and solvents to exterior and interior building surfaces such as plaster, sheetrock, concrete, and wood.
    Performs building exterior and interior caulking, finish repair, mud and tape, and texturing tasks.
  • Operates equipment such as airless spray equipment, scaffolding, and motorized lifts.
  • Uses mechanized high-reach equipment to renew caulking on exterior building panel seams, windows, and doors.
  • Performs special refinishing tasks including wood surface preparation, staining, and sealing.
  • Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
  • Performs minor plaster repair, blending newly renovated wall surfaces with existing plaster.
  • Surveys building painting project sites to estimate time and material quantities required; selects appropriate surface coatings.
  • Ensure that the work site and conditions are safe
  • Make independent assessments for repair and maintenance needs while assisting and following directives of the Facility Director.

Reporting Structure:

The Painter reports to the Director of Facilities.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • New York State Driver’s License
  • Ability to commute between school sites
  • 2-5 years’ experience in facility maintenance and mechanical roles

Skills and Traits:

  • Experience painting residential or commercial spaces
  • Ability to use a computer and to learn new programs
  • Skill in selecting and applying paint and associated products.
  • Skill in applying coatings and/or caulking and completing repairs to exterior and interior surfaces.
  • Skill in wood surface preparation, staining, and/or sealing techniques
  • Physical requirements include stooping, standing, walking, climbing stairs/ladders
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs

Compensation

Initial salary offers for this position range from $20 – $35 per hour. Salaries are determined using an equitable compensation scale that accounts for years of experience and levels of attained education.
