Bloomberg Associates is an international consulting service founded by former New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg as a philanthropic venture. We provide pro-bono services to mayors to help city governments improve the quality of life of their citizens. Although we are a philanthropic enterprise, we function and work as a private-sector management consulting firm. Municipal Integrity, Efficiency & Transparency Practice 

The Municipal Integrity, Efficiency and Transparency (BAMI) team serves as a strategic advisor to cities as they endeavor to develop robust platforms and processes for advancing transparency, efficiency and accountability across agencies. Sound municipal integrity infrastructure, including reduced bureaucracy, can help improve services for citizens and save money for the city as well as the private sector. Projects undertaken by BAMI have created greater transparency, foster an environment that attracts businesses, and generates millions of dollars in revenue. Related to this work, the BAMI team works on projects that involve criminal justice issues. 

Position 

The BAMI Team at Bloomberg Associates is recruiting a Fellow to support the team on a range of projects with US and international client cities.   

The Fellow should be based in New York and will work remotely for six months, with the possibility of occasional in person meetings. This role will be part-time, ranging from 15 – 20 hours per week. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Assist with city client project matters many of which involve review/audits of municipal government processes that are in need of greater efficiency, modernization and faster processes. 
  • Best practice research on comparative city operations, often including study of the legal and regulatory underpinnings of those city processes.  
  • Research, writing, editing materials for external delivery to city clients.  
  • Participate in client meetings and calls, preparation for client calls and meetings, after-call follow up.   
  • Ability to search for publicly available (city and other) data, and ability to create PowerPoints and data visualizations that support/illustrate research findings and outcomes. 

Desired Qualifications 

  • A Graduate degree or currently pursuing a graduate degree with demonstrated academic successes and experience in business, government and/or nonprofit organizations. Prior internship/professional experience is a plus 
  • A strategic and analytical mindset with attention to detail and a complete focus on delivery 
  • A proven track record of strong project execution, policy research, project management and results driven impact 
  • Strong communication, interpersonal skills and the ability to work with multiple stakeholders
  • Clear and concise writing skills
  • Ability to convey complex data in simple PowerPoint design (ability to use Tableau software would also be helpful)
  • Comfortable working through ambiguity to create paths forward
  • An entrepreneurial self-starter can do approach with the ability to think and plan creatively
  • A quick learner, able to absorb and synthesize large amounts of information
  • Experience living in and/or working with international cities
  • Fluency in additional languages
  • Proficiency in GIS analysis and associated software programs
  • Experience working with Legal databases
