About the Curatorial Intern  Role: 

BRIC seeks a Curatorial Intern to assist with writing and the coordination of an exhibition in Fall 2023 celebrating the 50th anniversary of Hip Hop through the work of contemporary visual artists. The intern will also be assisting in the kick off of our BRIClab residency program in Fall 2023.

What You’ll Do in the Role:

The Curatorial Intern will be responsible for the following in addition to any other project as assigned by their manager, the Chief Curator, Director of Exhibitions: 

  • Assist in the writing (bios and labels) for the exhibition celebrating Hip Hop’s 50th.
  • Provide research for upcoming exhibitions especially for the spring 2024 exhibition All My Relations. This major exhibition and BRIC-wide initiative will focus on disability artistry. 
  • The intern will be responsible for writing artist bios and descriptions of the artists proposed projects for BRIClab Contemporary Art and Video Art artists.
  • Visit the BRIClab artists in their studios and attend the summer orientation. 
  • Conduct artist research for the upcoming exhibit, All My Relations and contribute to an extensive slide deck with images and information, and to a database with information on leaders in the fields, writings, and other resource information for the upcoming exhibit, All My Relations. 

You’ll Bring these Skills and Strengths to the Role:

  • Mission & Values Alignment: A passion for BRIC’s support of the arts in Brooklyn and a deep commitment to building community, igniting learning and making change through the arts and creativity.
  • Students majoring in art history or curatorial studies strongly preferred. 
  • Rising juniors or seniors, or those who have just received a BA.  
  • Good general knowledge of and interest in contemporary art and culture.
  • Excellent writing and research skills.
  • Good phone and communication skills.
  • Highly organized and detailed; ability to keep track of large amounts of information.
  • Knowledge of PC and Mac computers; experience working with G Suite (Google) preferred.

Other Things to Know:

  • Compensation: The intern will be compensated at the rate of $15/hour for a total of $2,500. 
  • Status and location: This is a part-time position 15-20 hours/week through summer 2023.
