Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy is seeking a part-time Volunteer & Development Associate for its 2024 season, from approximately April-October 2024

Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy plays a vital role in creating and energizing this community-focused, world-class urban oasis on the Brooklyn waterfront. We bring this unique park space to life with more than 400 free, innovative and engaging educational, cultural, fitness and recreational programs each year. Our volunteer community plays a vital role in keeping our programs thriving and Brooklyn Bridge Park beautiful, and each year the Conservancy engages 600 volunteers through a range of opportunities.

Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy is seeking a part-time Volunteer & Development Associate for its 2024 season. The Volunteer & Development Associate will report to the Volunteer Manager and will provide critical support with increasing our engagement with corporate groups, and school and local community groups as we expand our volunteer offering in 2024. This position will assist with hands-on facilitation of Green Teams (group gardening activities) and Coastal Cleanups (trash collection activities along the shoreline) out in the park as well as with pre- and post- activity administration. This is an exciting opportunity to help hundreds of individuals experience the impact of volunteering and the importance of community support for a nonprofit organization.

This position will be from April-October (10 hours maximum per week April-May, 15 hours maximum per week June-October). This is an in-person role which will involve a variable work pattern, based on the needs of the volunteer program, with some evening and week work, scheduled in advance.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Working outdoors to facilitate group volunteering projects, including welcoming volunteers, setting up equipment, and supervising volunteer tasks
  • Accurately recording and tracking volunteer attendance and other activity outputs such as bags of weeds removed and lbs of trash collected
  • Coordinating volunteer equipment, including maintaining an inventory and an organized storage system
  • Providing general administrative support to staff, including uploading photographs and checking completion of waivers
  • Provide support for fundraising activities at Conservancy programs and events
  • Provide support to the Special Events Manager for spring and fall fundraising events and various small donor fundraising and cultivation events

The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following:

  • A motivation to work with the Conservancy and make an impact within a nonprofit organization
  • An interest in volunteering and/or environmental stewardship
  • Ability to communicate and engage effectively with a diverse range of people
  • Detail-oriented
  • Ability to perform outdoor work (including lift 40 lbs) in all weather conditions
  • Willingness to accommodate a flexible schedule which includes evenings and weekends
  • Right to work in the USA
  • Experience of volunteering personally or professionally is a plus
  • Comfortable speaking to a large audience is a plus
  • Competent in using Microsoft Office and Google Suite is a plus
