About Cabrini Immigrant Services of NYC:

Cabrini Immigrant Services of NYC (CIS-NYC) provides essential services to immigrants in the spirit of Mother Cabrini, patron saint of immigrants and founder of the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. CIS-NYC serves all persons residing in the five boroughs of New York City regardless of age, race, ethnicity, political views, country of origin, physical ability, religion, sex, sexual orientation, or immigration status. About the Food Pantry Program:

CIS-NYC’s Food Pantry distributes well-balanced, healthy, and culturally appropriate packages of food to local families every Saturday. The pantry is located in Inwood and works with a predominantly Dominican population, serving approximately 300 clients each week.

Position Summary:

The Assistant Pantry Coordinator (APC) will assist the Pantry Coordinator (PC) with all on-site work at the Food Pantry, including deliveries and food package preparation on Fridays, as well as client management during Saturday distributions. The APC will also manage the delivery program for clients on disability, onboarding referrals, and working with volunteers to communicate with clients weekly. Additionally, the APC will work with the PC to register new clients, track program metrics, and update the pantry’s online presence. The APC will report directly to the PC.

Primary Responsibilities:

· Receive food and supply deliveries on Fridays (must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.) and ensure all food safety procedures are implemented and maintained.

· Assist the coordinator with the weekly food pantry distribution on Saturday mornings and help with translation (English to Spanish)

· Register new clients. This includes creating client cards and communicating with clients on the phone as intake issues arise.

· Maintain program records and statistics.

· Manage the Delivery Program:

o Onboard referrals from partnering social service organizations.

o Communicate with clients each week to ensure availability to take delivery.

o Track data as required.

· Assist with other projects as needed.

· Improve the pantry’s online presence. This may include updating incorrect or out-of-date information online, creating pantry listings on relevant websites, etc.

· Perform other duties as necessary.

Hours:

· The Food Pantry Assistant will work 14hrs per week.

· Must be available to work on Fridays from 9am – 2pm and Saturdays from 7:00am – 10:00am

· Remaining 6 hours per week will be determined based on programmatic needs.

Pay: $18/hour, 14 hours/week, 52 weeks/year.

Qualifications:

· Bilingual in Spanish and English required (spoken and written)

· Food safety certification or experience helpful (training will be provided, if not).

· Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

· Strong organizational and computer skills.

· Works with grace under pressure, able to communicate with clients with patience and respect.

· Attentive to detail and able to make quick, efficient decisions.

· Committed to social justice principles and has a passion for serving those who are underserved.

· Ability to lift 50 lbs.
