The Center for Court Innovation is a non-profit organization that works to create a more effective and humane justice system by performing original research and helping launch reforms by guiding justice innovators, nationally and internationally. The Center creates operating projects that have been documented to reduce the use of jail and prison, assist victims of crime, and strengthen communities.   

The Center is seeking a Manager for its Grants Development & Administration department. Reporting to the Director, Development Operations, the Manager will support the department’s core functions and help the department expand its fundraising strategies. Specifically, we are looking for an energetic self-starter with significant grant writing and management experience – e.g., identifying grant opportunities, writing and editing proposals, and managing grant requirements – who can also help the department strengthen other strategies for revenue generation.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Manage the grants and fundraising needs for a portfolio of Center projects and departments;
  • Direct project staff and partners in the process of identifying new funding sources and applying for grants, including collaborating with project staff to conceptualize potential programs;
  • Draft and edit proposals, progress reports and other written products; create and edit budgets in partnership with the Center’s fiscal department; and manage grant-related reporting requirements;
  • Expand the Center’s funder base by expanding departmental capacity to conduct prospect research;
  • Help train new development staff, as appropriate;
  • Lead development strategy meetings for a portfolio of Center projects and attend fiscal review meetings;
  • Assist, as needed, with revenue contract processing;
  • Use the department’s Salesforce database to track grant proposals and awards, and assist, as needed, with department efforts to improve its database;
  • Manage work of Development Associates within portfolio areas;
  • Work closely with the Center’s fiscal department and legal department on administrative matters;
  • Other tasks as needed.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years’ experience in one or more fundraising-related skills such as grant-writing and grants management. Other qualifications include:

  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to build and sustain relationships with Center for Court Innovation staff, funding partners, and other stakeholders;
  • Excellent writing and editing skills;
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to coordinate several projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines;
  • Demonstrated interest in and understanding of the work of the Center for Court Innovation, with the ability to articulate the case for support and solicit stakeholder buy-in to our vision, mission, and goals;
  • Experience in one or more fundraising-related skills such as grant-writing and grants management.
