The Center for Court Innovation is a non-profit organization that works to create a more effective and humane justice system by performing original research and helping launch reforms by guiding justice innovators, nationally and internationally. The Center creates operating projects that have been documented to reduce the use of jail and prison, assist victims of crime, and strengthen communities.
The Staten Island Justice Center (SIJC) offers an array of programming for both youth and adults in Staten Island, focusing on engaging those with current or past justice involvement. The Justice Center provides judges, prosecutors, and defense attorneys with alternative community sentencing options that hold individuals accountable in a way that is meaningful, proportionate, and restorative. The goal is to provide participants with individual and group services that help them to avoid future contact with the justice system and promote swift case resolutions that bolster public confidence in justice.
The Staten Island Justice Center is looking for an Office Assistant. Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Office Assistant will help with all organizational and administrative duties of SIJC. They will play a key role in acting as a receptionist and greeting clients and visitors, scheduling meetings and appointments, and supporting staff with organizational tasks and keeping a positive welcoming productive environment.
Responsibilities include:
- Provide reception coverage including answering phone calls and general email inquiries while directing people accordingly, greeting and screening clients and visitors while maintaining protocols and procedures and utilizing a strengths-based, non-judgmental approach;
- Maintain supply storage and assist Operations Manager with the planning and organizing of storage spaces in SIJC offices;
- Oversee the supplies inventory for all SIJC departments, including ordering, tracking inventory, receiving deliveries and communicating with relevant teams about deliveries, contacting vendors when needed, organizing supplies and resources in appropriate storage spaces, and communicating with Directors and Managers around supply needs;
- Ensure office supplies in the breakroom and at workstations are stocked;
- Oversee calendar for conference room reservations at all SIJC offices;
- Engage with SIJC staff in the office management channel in Slack to address office related issues & concerns;
- Assist with community event planning and implementation by engaging in the Community Events Committee and supporting departmental specific logistical needs;
- Assist with in-office health and safety protocols, including overseeing the inventory of PPE, and PPE placement and replenishment;
- Participate in staff meetings, in-service trainings, and on- and off-site visits;
- Perform other duties as necessary, informed by direct supervisor, or other site leadership;
- Additional relevant tasks and duties, as needed.
Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma with at least 2 years of relevant experience in office management or administrative setting using Microsoft programs such as Word, Excel, and Power Point preferred. Excellent communication and writing skills required. This position requires an organized and creative individual who is willing to learn office management systems and can work well in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will have prior experience working in a criminal justice setting and has a passion for working with criminal justice involved individuals and serving the Staten Island community. Must have proficient computer skills and an interest in learning new organizational platforms such as Monday.com, Slack and Microsoft Teams.
Location: Staten Island, NY
Position Type: Full-time; set schedule is 35 hours per week in-person at the SIJC office (Monday-Friday 9am-5pm).
Compensation: Hourly rate begins at $24.35 per hour and is commensurate with experience. This position is eligible for overtime at 1.5x the hourly rate above 40 hours per week.
