The Center for Court Innovation is a non-profit organization that works to create a more effective and humane justice system by performing original research and helping launch reforms by guiding justice innovators, nationally and internationally. The Center creates operating projects that have been documented to reduce the use of jail and prison, assist victims of crime, and strengthen communities.   

Center for Court Innovation is looking for a Payroll Specialist to support the operations, communication, implementation, and administrative functions of all payroll processes. Reporting to the Payroll Manager, the Payroll Specialist will be responsible for execution of payroll for all Center staff. We are looking for a dynamic, self-starter, who enjoys working both independently and within a team.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assist with processing 2 types of semi-monthly payrolls for 600+ salaried & hourly employees;
  • Enter employee changes into Paycom, as directed (garnishments, child support orders, reviewing employee tax set up, etc.);
  • Review timecards in a timely manner and clarify outstanding time tracking issues;
  • Resolve employee pay issues in a confidential and professional manner;
  • Generate semi-monthly payroll reports for Fiscal and HR departments, audits, and year-end reporting;
  • Support department with annual W-2 process;
  • Work collaboratively with all departments to resolve any payroll issues (assigning timecards, missing hours, etc.);
  • Oversee correspondence for the payroll department, including filing, archiving, faxing, photocopying, shipping & handling; 
  • Complete special projects as assigned by the Payroll Manager;
  • Assist the Payroll department with day-to-day office needs;
  • Prepare payroll and other invoices related to the work of the department and work closely with HR and Fiscal staff to resolve payment or invoice questions;
  • Additional relevant tasks, as needed. 

Qualifications:  The ideal candidate will have an Associate’s degree in relevant field with at least 2-3 years of experience working in an office environment (HR, payroll, etc.). Non-profit experience a plus. Experience working with Paycom software preferred. Proficiency with MS Office programs and intermediate skill required in Excel. Candidate must be detail oriented and possess excellent communication and organizational skills.  The ideal candidate will be professional and personable yet have the ability to exercise sound judgment when dealing with sensitive and confidential matters. 

Position Type:  Full-time, salaried exempt.

Location:  Midtown Manhattan
