Senior Associate, Finance

The Opportunity

We are seeking a dynamic and motivated individual to serve as a Senior Associate, Finance who will be responsible for in-depth analysis of the budgetary and financial aspects of CEO’s on-going operations. You will help identify fiscal, budgetary and accounting vulnerabilities, gaps and challenges while in consultation with senior leadership. The ideal candidate will apply organizational budget guidelines, process, and strong personal judgment when reviewing and analyzing budget estimates and /or financial problems for both central service functions and state and city offices. The Senior Associate, Finance will then translate that analysis into recommendations for achieving the most efficient use of resources.

This role is responsible for providing senior management and executives with the analysis and information they need to make major decisions. You will be responsible for helping with the annual budgeting process, as well as assisting with cash flow forecast models, variance analysis, and other financial performance tools. The person will be working across business units and departments to build close relationships, real and active partnership with both operations and management.

Who We Are

The Center for Employment Opportunities (CEO) provides employment services to people with recent criminal convictions. Across the United States, over 6,000 people participate in CEO each year, transitioning to employment that supports themselves, their families, and their communities.

What began as a demonstration project of the Vera Institute of Justice in the 1970s to address employment barriers facing the formerly incarcerated following release in New York City has grown into the leading reentry employment organization in the country, where over 25,000 formerly incarcerated individuals have secured full-time employment since 1996. In 2016, CEO embarked on a 5-year strategic plan to grow to serve 9,000 participants annually. 

Who You Are

  • You have 2-4 years of FPA experience 
  • you are experienced with financial modeling/analysis
  • You’re proficient in Excel 
  • You have excellent mathematical abilities and an analytical mind.
  • You have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • You have great attention to detail.    
  • You have knowledge of Adaptive Insights, Sage Intacct, Salesforce, Dashboards (Preferred) 

What You’ll Be Responsible For

Key responsibilities of the Senior Associate, Finance include but are not limited to:

Financial Planning & Forecasting

  • Assisting Financial Manager with CEO’s financial budget planning & forecasting (revenue and all cost lines including head count, compensation grid, capacity optimization, productivity targets, utilization levels etc.), communicating with staff to update templates, and developing reports for current locations
  • Assist with ad hoc business analysis; whether it be optimizing data models and tools or to recommend and implement new ones. 
  • Provide decision support through modeling financial scenarios, profitability models and analysis around critical initiatives, efficiency drivers along with business metrics. 
  • Assist with Improvement strategies and facilitate the adoption of the standardized and streamlined reporting packs in consultation with the program.

Budgeting

  • Accurately project revenue and expenses for each jurisdiction (and automate process)
  • Collaborate with jurisdictions and all department leads with preparing operating budgets to support the organization’s expense management goals.
  • Review updates on program/project budgets and forecasts in real time based on changing assumptions in revenue, personnel, and other direct project costs.
  • Collaborate with program budget coordinators regularly to keep staff well-informed of program activities in order to anticipate budget revisions that may be necessary.
  • Perform budget to actual variance analysis to identify inaccuracies, trends, personnel reclassifications, potential budget shortfalls or cost overruns, and opportunities for surpluses. 
  • Assist with the preparation of department/program budget reports for quarterly budget reviews with Senior Management.
  • Strategize with the Finance & Accounting team to identify areas or opportunities for improvement.
  • Assist with Federal budget processes such as SNAP, NDWG, WIOA and other large multi-million dollar budgets. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

Financial Analysis

  • Assist the Financial Manager with analyzing proposed plans 
  • Review and create ad hoc analysis such as cost/benefit, sensitivity analysis and other financial analyses
  • Review and create financial models and analyze the data.
  • Data visualization in various platforms such as Adaptive, Intacct, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.

Communication and Collaboration

  • Meet with executive and senior teams on a regular basis to gather data for the budgeting process and/or to create a budget for them and/or to explain to them the different components of the budget
  • Present the budget analysis to leaders throughout each team in CEO
  • Collaborate with the teams to analyze data and brainstorm ideas.

Financial Systems

  • Continuously enable other functions to utilize Adaptive by translating existing Excel models to the Adaptive platform.
  • Work with large datasets from Salesforce, Adaptive and Intacct

PERFORMANCE GOALS

  • Variance with budget and actuals below 15% or as advised by the CFO
  • Ensure budget is up to date and accurate
  • Ensuring all FP&A requests are handled with 14 days of response time

Compensation and Benefits  

The salary range for this position is $70,000 – 80,000/annually CEO’s compensation philosophy considers a variety of factors including experience, internal equity, and the labor market associated with the city in which the position is located. This position can be located in any of the cities in which CEO operates. The labor markets associated with the cities in which CEO is based are variable, and the salary range included here reflects this. Our salary offer will fall within this range and will be reflective of the labor market of the city in which the position is based, as well the other factors named above.
