Overview

Position Summary: The Intake Supervisor will provide supervision to Case Planners supporting families within the Bronx. The foster care program is prepared to deal with the widest range of child welfare situations—from temporary situations that allow birth families to address issues until they can be reunited, to specialized homes with highly trained foster parents for children who need constant care for chronic medical and developmental conditions, or children reacting to trauma.

Responsibilities: 

  • Supervision of Intake Case Planning Unit providing services aimed at meeting permanency and service needs of adolescent youth and their families.
  • Oversee the Intake phase of a case to engage the foster and birth families, transition the case from ACS and serve as the liaison between service providers and Family Court Legal Services.
  • Aid in response to the Administration for Children’s Services Office of Placement Administration is responded to in a timely manner via email and telephone communication regarding placements including for specialized placements.
  • Complete data entry for the electronic entry of placement movements within the agency including completing child characteristics and placement evaluations for children in care with Children’s Aid. 
  • Match placement referrals with foster parents.
  • Assist and review Intake and Change of Status for Admissions into foster care.
  • Participate in on call responsibilities to ensure placement. When they occur, on call responsibilities may include 24- hour coverage.
  • Serve as a Liaison with the Administration for Children’s Services Office of Placement Administration
  • Provide close supervision, training and guidance to case managers to ensure safe, effective discharge planning.
  • Act as liaison to Administration for Children’s Services and Family Court reviewing all staff’s reports and notes prior to submittal to ACS and Court.
  • Have a demonstrated expertise in the provision of services to youth in foster care.
  • Participate in Family Team Conferences, ACS Meetings, internal and external meetings, staff training and planning sessions.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications: 

  • Masters of Social Work required; plus three years post MSW experience.
  • Thorough working knowledge of foster care and adoption system.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and management skills.
  • Flexibility and ability to work under pressure and to relate to birth parents, foster parents and children.
