Climate Defiance is hiring a New York Director. This person will organize Climate Defiance actions and events in New York, with a special focus on financial institutions.

Location:

This position is based in NYC and cannot be done remotely.

You are a collaborative and empathetic leader, deeply invested in team building. Your adeptness in team development is bolstered by your robust communication and organizational proficiencies. Committed to social change, you champion racial, economic, and environmental justice. As a self-starter, you excel in executing, implementing, and troubleshooting without excessive oversight. Your convictions align with the principles of nonviolent confrontation, direct action, and disruption.

Qualifications:

  • Professional Experience: Minimum of 3 years of organizing or campaigning experience. We may be flexible on this requirement for the perfect candidate.
  • Turnout experience: We seek someone with experience recruiting and turning out volunteers to actions.
  • Team Management: Experience managing teams of volunteers. Staff management experience is great but not required.
  • Conflict Resolution: Experience in leading systematic conflict resolution.
  • Direct Action Involvement: Active participation in and leadership of direct actions.
  • Willingness to Travel: Flexibility and readiness to engage in extensive travel for actions and site visits.

Positionality

The person hired for this role will likely report to the organizing director. This person will likely not have any paid direct reports, but rather will focus on recruiting, cultivating, training and mentoring volunteer leaders across the country.
