Overview

The First Step Program is a job-training program that supports those who identify as women and who are unhoused or have low-income in meeting employment and educational goals through holistic and empowering programming.

The Career Development Supervisor is responsible for managing the Career Development component of First Step. The Career Development Supervisor provides guidance and supervision to the Career Development team, oversees and supports internship and job coach partnerships, facilitates digital literacy and career skills workshops, and provides job search support to students and graduates. The Career Development Supervisor ensures that program services are consistent with the mission and goals of the Coalition for the Homeless and the terms of the relevant funding agreements for the First Step Program.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

The Career Development Supervisor shall:

  1. Provide direct supervision, training, support and leadership to the Career Skills Instructor and Computer Assistants;
  2. Under the supervision of the First Step Program Director, assume overall responsibility for developing, facilitating, or supporting facilitation of professional development and digital literacy curricula;
  3. Facilitate the flow of the classroom phase by creating and posting calendars, assignments, and class communications via Google Classroom
  4. Cultivate and maintain partnerships with appropriate internship sites in an effort to grow the internship component of program;
  5. Develop and maintain a good working relationship with volunteers, corporate partners, internship supervisors, among others;
  6. Match students with internships and monitor student progress by regularly communicating with students and internship supervisors and conducting site visits;
  7. Oversee the mentorship/job coach component of the program by assisting Career Skills Instructor with matching and providing support;
  8. Work closely with the Program Director to plan resume review/mock interview events with corporate partners and accompany students to events off-site;
  9. Assist with gathering documentation of job placements and retention from program graduates;
  10. Participate in the development, maintenance, and evaluation of First Step curriculum;
  11. Assist in the coordination and facilitation of orientation at the start of each new class;
  12. Prepare computer lab for each incoming cohort and collaborate with IT staff to resolved any computer or tech problems;
  13. Provide graduate support around job search and application;
  14. Boost graduate engagement by planning and implementing regular graduate events, newsletters, and social media posts;
  15. Participate and assist with planning of special events such as graduation ceremonies, benefit luncheon, and holiday party for the First Step program;
  16. Participate in weekly staff meetings and communicate social service-related concerns to the First Step team;
  17. Obtain regular (no less than weekly) supervision with the First Step Program Director to review curriculum, issues/concerns, and support staff needs, among other matters;
  18. Perform all other duties as may be assigned by Program Director or designee.

Requirements

  • BA/BS in a relevant discipline, or equivalent post-secondary education combined with relevant experience preferred;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of computer operating systems and experience using Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher; familiarity with Google Workspace, including Google docs, classroom, calendar, drive, slides, and email;
  • Formal presentation skills and the ability to teach technical skills in a patient and supportive manner to adult learners with wide-ranging computer and career experience;
  • Strong relationship-building and communication skills;
  • Strong time management skills and an ability to set and reach goals in a dynamic, fast-paced setting;
  • Prior experience teaching software modules in a formal classroom setting, as well as an understanding of adult learning methodologies and the ability to incorporate them into an effective presentation preferred;
  • Prior experience serving women and unhoused populations preferred.
  • Ability to work in-person is required
