PURPOSE OF POSITION

The Budget Analyst is responsible for developing and evaluating budget needs of the departments/ programs, spending is checked throughout the year to ensure it follows the proposed budget and decide if changes are necessary as part of the forecast.  This role also performs accounts payable functions from the processing of invoices and disbursement in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This position requires intermittent in-person presence at CHNY sites in Manhattan and the Bronx.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

(Responsibilities to include but not limited to the following)

  • Assist and collaborate with Department Heads to develop department and program budgets.
  • Review and analyze budget proposals and offer insight regarding funds requests.
  • Review received revenue and expense actuals, compare to projections, and research discrepancies.
  • Enter and review invoice information into relevant finance software; Perform ongoing analysis to monitor miscoded revenue/expense and coordinate with accounting and grants teams to create necessary journal entries and salary allocation changes. 
  • Monitor spending and detect expenditure tendencies.  Conduct cost-benefit analyses to determine program and cost efficiency.
  • Prepare regular and special budget reports and provide recommendations if necessary.
  • Attend all budget and forecast team meetings; participate in annual budget development, and all ongoing reviews.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and needed

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required in finance or accounting. 
  • One to three years of relevant full-time job experience and working in a non-for-profit is a plus.

Knowledge/Skills     

  • Strong technology skills with high competency level in MS Office applications; experience in Sage Intacct, Bill.com and Martus budgeting and forecasting systems preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft word, Excel and PowerPoint required. Experience managing large-scale data sets required.
  • Strong project management, attention to detail, and ability to work quickly and professionally on short turnaround projects essential.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and ability to work effectively within a diverse and socially committed organizational setting.
  • Must be highly organized and detail oriented, have the ability to multi-task and work effectively under pressure in both a team setting and individually.
  • Attention to details and accuracy with strong analytical, technical and organizational skills
  • Excellent judgment and critical thinking skills and high level of attention to detail and accuracy.

Salary: $75,000

Hours: 9 am – 5 pm; Monday – Friday

Compensation
