Overview

Creative Art Works (CAW) seeks a Development & Communications Coordinator who will work with the Development Manager and Manager of Marketing & Communications to build and sustain funding, engaging donors and partners through written communications, print and digital marketing collateral, and events. This will be a full-time position working 40 hours per week in the organization’s office in midtown and traveling to worksites throughout the city, with occasional nights and weekends to support the implementation of organizational events. This person will be an integral member of a lean, passionate team. This is the perfect position for someone with social-media savvy and who wants to develop their fundraising and communications skills.

CAW is a 39-year-old creative youth development organization that empowers young people through the visual and multimedia arts.

Our programs:

CAW programs include in-school and out-of-school-time classes, community artmaking events, and our well-known public art youth employment program. Working in underserved neighborhoods of NYC, in public schools, community and cultural centers, juvenile justice setting, parks and libraries, we provide dynamic arts experiences for youth who otherwise lack access. Students are never charged for participation.

Summary

The Development & Communications Coordinator will report to the Development Manager and the Manager of Marketing & Communications. This position will provide support for a wide breadth of fundraising and communications activities including donor relations, grant administration, program development, and print and digital content creation.

In addition to year-round programming, Creative Art Works conducts two major fundraising campaigns each year, our Annual Appeal campaign and our Annual Benefit for Kids. Development and communications at Creative Art Works are deeply linked and the Development & Communications Coordinator will be integral to the success of these campaigns.

Responsibilities

Development

  • Administer the donor acknowledgement cycle, including the processing of gifts and acknowledgements with accurate and timely entry and tracking of donor and funder data, correspondence, contacts, and deadlines.
  • With the Development Manager, implement strategies for donor engagement, fundraising outreach, and cultivation of potential donors.
  • Serve as the database administrator of our CRM (Neon), maintaining records, building new functionality, and staying current with and implementing industry best practices.
  • Support grant and government contracting, compliance and reporting through internal and external writing, program documentation, conducting site visits, and more.
  • Collaborate in the planning and execution of Annual Appeal, Annual Benefit for Kids, and other events.

Marketing

  • Run CAW’s social media (currently Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn).
  • Attend CAW and partner events and promote these activities on social media.
  • Collect and curate media assets (photos and videos) and monitor relevant news to utilize for communication purposes.
  • Collaborate with CAW colleagues to keep the website (Squarespace) updated with new content, including photos and news items, a blog with current news and available resources, ensuring the website is coordinated with social media content.
  • Design and distribute regular newsletters (via Mailchimp), program fliers, and other collateral in English & Spanish.
  • Support the development and implementation of a year-round schedule of communications.

Other duties in support of the Executive Director and wider organization as may be required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with at least two years’ experience in communications, fundraising, or development for a nonprofit organization. Will consider an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
  • Outstanding verbal communication skills, writing skills, and grammar
  • Excellent organizational skills, research skills, and attention to detail
  • Prior experience with donor management or customer relationship management database systems
  • Demonstrated knowledge of standard business writing and formatting
  • Expert proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Familiarity with grant contracting, documentation, and reporting procedures a plus
  • Proficiency with Adobe CS (particularly InDesign and Photoshop) and/or similar editing software a plus
  • Comfort with shared project management platforms (e.g. Airtable, Slack, Asana) a plus
