About DOROT: DOROT, which means “generations” in Hebrew, was founded in 1976. We provide a dynamic partnership of seniors, volunteers, and professionals dedicated to enhancing the lives of older adults to help them live independently as valued members of the community. Our wide array of programs – conducted on-site, in the home and in the community – are designed to combat loneliness and social isolation. Compassionate care and a commitment to excellence are hallmarks of our programs and staff.

Position Summary: DOROT’s Social Workers provide case assistance and support to a broad spectrum of active as well as isolated and homebound seniors. This includes assessing seniors for all of DOROT’s Programs. The Assessment Social Worker will assume the very important primary responsibility of conducting comprehensive, psychosocial in-home assessments of new clients and follow-up assessments with ongoing clients. Follow up assessments are imperative to confirm a client’s ongoing appropriateness for program attendance or need for additional services. Social Workers also participate in and support DOROT’s intergenerational volunteer programs. 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Conduct in-home assessments (both first time and reassessment) a minimum of three full days a week; working independently in the community. This includes:
  • Providing short-term case assistance, information, referral, and advocacy to these seniors and their caregivers following the assessment or as needs arise 
  • Collaborating with the social work team and other staff to integrate these seniors into DOROT programs
  • Play a role in the analysis of program/project impact, helping to identify gaps and develop recommendations for program improvement
  • Collect, track, and maintain case assessment and related client interactions using DOROTs’ online database as it involves routine home assessment data entry and the review of monthly statistics for internal needs and reports to funders
  • Provide support to and participate in DOROT’s community-wide intergenerational volunteer programs and on-site events, schedule permitting
  • Staff the Information and Referral (I&R) telephone line, as needed
  • Special projects as assigned by Director

Qualifications:

  • LMSW required
  • A minimum of 1- 3 years of professional social work experience working with an elderly population
  • Demonstrated strong clinical assessment skills 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a clinical team 
  • Knowledge of aging and community resources 
  • Proficiency with Office 365
  • Experience working with volunteers a plus
  • Fluency in Spanish a plus
