Overview
Position: Vocal Music Teaching Artist
DreamYard Preparatory High School, a South Bronx public high school with a focus on the arts & social justice, seeks a motivated and experienced professional to join its team of teaching artists for the entirety of the 2024-2025 DOE academic calendar year. Reports to: School Principal, Anthony Santiago. Part-time position. Competitive Salary based on experience.
We are seeking 1-2 teaching artists available for the following classes:
- Teach one music major course for 11th graders (Monday thru Friday, 9:15-10:15 am)
- Teach one music course for 9th graders (Tuesdays & Thursdays, 12:00-1:00 pm)
Job Requirements:
As a teaching artist, candidate will be expected to:
- Plan and develop their own lessons and unit plans on an ongoing basis
- Prepare students with interesting and suitable material for all school arts events, including a culminating community-wide sharing performance at the end of every semester (fall & spring semesters)
- Allow additional hours for planning and grading
- Submit course grades every marking period and final course grades
- Create meaningful connections with our students and leverage learning in the arts to develop creative problem solvers, team players, effective leaders, independent thinkers, and empathetic community members
As a team member of the arts department, candidate will be expected to:
- be a team player and solution-oriented
- attend weekly department meetings (can be virtual or review meeting minutes)
Position Requirements:
- College Degree (Bachelor Required, Masters Preferred or Professional Equivalence)
- Significant classroom teaching experience, including strong classroom management skills
- Proven artistic and educational expertise in music and/or musical theatre
- Experience working with diverse youth populations
- Commitment to ongoing growth and refinement of teaching artist skills
- Bilingual preferred (Spanish) but not required
- Piano accompanist preferred
