The DUMBO Improvement District is a nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing and promoting DUMBO, Brooklyn. The BID showcases DUMBO as a world-class destination, advocating on behalf of DUMBO’s businesses, property owners and residents. A critical part of this mission is the programming of DUMBO’s wonderful public spaces; high-quality events and programming draw residents, neighbors, workforce and visitors to the space, enriching the community. THE POSITION

The DUMBO Improvement District seeks a Community Development Intern who will work with the Director of Operations + Senior Vice President of Programs on a robust slate of Dumbo projects happening this winter. You will assist with public space management, economic development projects, asset mapping, plaza programming, neighborhood communications, and more. If you’re an urbanist with an entrepreneurial spirit and a creative spark, this is the perfect, hands-on learning opportunity!

REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong oral and written communication skills;
  • Desire to work on community development opportunities;
  • Responsible and detail oriented;
  • Overall tech savvy-ness (Airtable, Google Suite)
  • Familiarity with NYC OpenData a plus;
  • Office experience working at a small nonprofit or startup a plus.

SCHEDULE:

Minimum 15 hours per week, mix of office work and some events coverage. Office hours are Monday-Friday from 10:30am-5pm. Additional nights and weekends may be required for events, including BID-produced events, community board meetings, NYPD community meetings and more. Full schedule will be shared with prospective candidates.

The internship starts around January 4, and ends in mid May, with the possibility of extending through the summer season. We can be flexible with start and end dates!
