Job Summary

Reporting to exalt’s Chief Program Officer, the Director of Workforce Development and Career Advancement will serve as an ambassador of exalt and the primary liaison between the organization and current and potential partners. This position is critical to the growth and expansion of our organization. Internships are a major component of our model. exalt must create and sustain both in-person internships and virtual internships to ensure that each young person who is underemployed and burdened with the potential of incarceration can envision through an internship a potential career pathway that supports our organizational goal of ensuring that youth make academic progression and move away from the court system. Career exploration, educational progression, and juvenile justice avoidance are all interrelated in addressing reconviction and the cycle of poverty. The ideal candidate will be passionate about exalt’s mission and understand the pivotal role internships and partnerships play in the organization’s model and future growth.

 

Responsibilities

  •  Serve as the primary liaison between existing and potential corporate, government and nonprofit internship partners.
  •  Create and sustain new internships for current students and alumni.
  •  Enhance exalt’s orientation and onboarding process for new internship supervisors to ensure that they support the values of our mission.
  •  Annually, evaluate all internships and ensure that the organization meets regularly with internship providers and reaches programmatic goals.
  •  Develop a new evaluation process to assess quality internship opportunities for our youth.
  •  Coordinate with our corporate sponsors to develop volunteer and internship opportunities.
  •  Work closely with Curriculum and Pedagogy staff to ensure that there is alignment with our core outcomes and internship placements to give our youth meaningful career exploration opportunities.
  •  Consistently evaluate and respond to both the needs of our students and internship providers as exalt aims to reduce recidivism, educational progression, and career exploratory opportunities to move youth out of the cycle of poverty and prepare them for their early adult life.
  •  Identify opportunities for increased partnership and support from internship providers.

  •  Cultural Sensitivity: Has strong familiarity with and understanding of or is committed to learning about exalt students’ histories, cultures, and the socio-economic and political factors which have shaped those.
  •  Technology: Familiarity with Google Suite. Ability to learn new applications such as Salesforce.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  •  Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent level of experience.
  •  3-5 years of experience in relevant fields (partnership and/or network development, workforce development, youth development, youth justice, internship placement, business)
  •  Understanding of the NYC business, political, nonprofit, criminal justice/human services landscapes.
  •  A commitment to exalt’s mission
  •  Meet essential competencies (listed above)
  •  Ability to travel to placement sites within NYC
  •  COVID-19 vaccination required

 

Preferred Qualifications

  •  Spanish-speaking
  •  Familiarity with the youth justice field

 

Location and Hours

While exalt‘s office hours are 11am-7pm, this position will require a flexible schedule and will often require a 9am-5pm schedule. This position is hybrid (combination of remote and in-person) and will require local travel to meet with partners. All employees must be vaccinated for Covid-19.

 

Compensation

exalt offers an attractive compensation package, including a competitive salary of $80,000 – $90,000, commensurate with experience, plus benefits.
