Explore Schools seeks an experienced organizational leader who demonstrates a drive toward excellence and is passionate about serving all students. The ideal candidate is an outstanding leader and manager of adults, who believes and invests in developing talent, building authentic relationships, all the while possessing a strong understanding of academic rigor and effective instruction. Additionally, you possess the following qualities:
Skills/Experience:
- Demonstrated track record of success in leadership of an organization or team.
- At least 7 years of professional experience, with a minimum of three years of principal experience and at least 1 year of full-time network experience strongly preferred.
- A successful track record in setting priorities, shaping processes, guiding investment in people and systems, and developing an infrastructure that creates a stronger and more efficient organization.
- Experience with schools that serve students with similar populations.
- Demonstrated success managing a team of adults to achieve a common goal.
- Experience supervising and developing leaders to improve outcomes for teachers and students.
- A master’s degree in educational leadership, or other advanced work in leadership is preferred.

WHAT YOU’LL DO
Explore Schools seeks an experienced organizational leader to serve as the Leadership Coach for our network of schools. In partnership with the MD of Schools, the Leadership Coach is responsible for supervising and developing principals with their school leadership teams to actualize the organization’s priorities and meet our annual measures, as well as coordinate support for our Principal Residents. This role reports directly to the MD of Schools and Programs, and along with the Chief Schools and Operations Officer, collaborates and strategizes to ensure effective implementation of activities and initiatives that will enable Explore Schools to achieve our mission. Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Coaching Support for School Leadership Teams
- Provide effective, inspiring and outcome-oriented leadership supervision and coaching to principals and school leadership teams, ensuring Explore Schools’ vision is clearly understood and executed successfully.
- Set clear, measurable goals and align coaching activities to ensure network-wide clarity and alignment around Explore Schools’ model; support schools to execute using common tools and approaches across schools.
- Define and execute on Explore Schools’ vision for leader development;
- Oversee and manage Principal Residency program;
- Develop and execute on a vision for leadership pipeline in collaboration with the Managing Director of Schools and the Managing Director of Talent
- Provide professional development for school leaders through workshop design and facilitation, modeling, and coaching, while also providing coaching, planning, and facilitation support during all professional development opportunities, including leadership retreats, PD days, pre-service, and in-service days.
- Create and maintain a bank of resources and tools for leaders
Specific Responsibilities
- Provide on-site supervision and support for principals and/or instructional leaders including observing classrooms, coaching meetings, coaching plans, professional development and other school-based meetings.
- Facilitate the performance management cycle with all direct reports including performance evaluations, goal setting, coaching plans and progress monitoring against strategic priorities.
- Partner with the HR team to support principals in navigating performance management concerns.
- Design a scope and sequence of leadership workshops based on network priorities and gaps in leader knowledge and skill in collaboration with the MD, Schools. Design materials and facilitate workshops.
- Collaborate with the Network’s Senior Leadership team to design the leadership pipeline and Principal Residency.
- Implement the Program Team’s vision for curriculum internalization and implementation, intellectual preparation and data driven planning.
- Work closely with team of Managing Directors, Chief Academic Officer, and Chief Schools & Operations Officer to foster proactive communication about decisions that impact multiple internal constituents or teams (ESI Operations, Talent, Human Resources).
- Design structures and materials to align practices and approaches across schools.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Explore Schools staff members receive a competitive salary, paid time off including network shutdown days, considerable matching of retirement contributions, and more.
- The salary range for this role is $145,000-190,000. This is our good faith range at the time of posting.
- Incoming salaries are determined based on experience and internal equity.
- Because we value staff members staying in their roles over time, we do not currently cap salary ranges and this is the range for incoming staff members only.

LOCATION AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Explore Schools is a network of 6 charter schools located in Canarsie, Crown Heights, and Flatbush communities of Brooklyn, NY. For this position:
- In-person work is required.
- This is an exempt position and is not eligible for overtime.
- The standard work week is 45 hours, though at times you may work more.
- This role requires that you be able to stand for at least 5 hours a day, take multiple trips up and down the stairs in a day, and be able to move quickly in an emergency.
- This role also requires that you be able to lift up to 15 pounds.
