Overview

Film Forum, an internationally recognized nonprofit cinema located in Lower Manhattan, seeks a pro-active, detail-oriented Bookkeeper. Successful candidates will be well organized, comfortable with standard accounting tasks, and have strong interpersonal communication skills. The office is small & friendly, but is a fast-paced and professional environment. This full-time position reports to the Director of Finance, and also works with many departments in the organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Handling accounts payable and receivable
  • Entering daily sales activity, and balancing deposits
  • Analyzing and reporting of daily box office grosses
  • Monthly reconciliations of box office grosses
  • Recording journal entries
  • Reconciling credit card activity with merchant services
  • Reconciling monthly bank statements
  • Managing contributions, membership, gift cards accounts, and reconciling with those departments monthly
  • Assisting in annual audit preparation (July – August)
  • Entering payroll and taxes and analyzing payroll account
  • Preparing year-end tax reporting
  • Analyzing and balancing General Ledger accounts
  • Maintaining vendor records, and filing
  • Produce financial settlement reports for films
  • Corresponding with film distributors and other vendors
  • Administrative support to the Finance Department

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2-4 years of accounting or bookkeeping experience; production or nonprofit accounting, a plus.
  • Proficiency required in QuickBooks and Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel
  • Hard-working, accurate and detail-oriented, with initiative
  • Knowledge of Customer Relationship Manager databases a plus; Film Forum uses Tessitura
  • Self-motivated with initiative
  • Ability to think systematically to find ways to improve financial operations and to create automated systems and processes to make financial reporting more efficient
  • Excellent communication skills and collaborative attitude
