Flatbush Cats is on a mission to end overcrowded animal shelters in NYC by increasing affordable access to veterinary care for everyone. We are seeking a creative and strategic Editor/Producer with a deep passion for animal welfare and advocacy.

This role will focus on editing and producing impactful video content that highlights our lifesaving work across multiple platforms, with a primary focus on YouTube. The ideal candidate is a versatile storyteller who excels in both editing and video production, with a strong editorial eye and organized approach to media management.

Key Responsibilities:

Video Editing

  • Edit videos for our YouTube channel – community centered documentaries, interviews, tutorials, and explainers.
  • Edit short-form videos for daily distribution on our social channels – Instagram, YouTube Shorts, TikTok
  • Develop narrative structures and pacing that maintain viewer engagement.
  • Work with Content Producer to ensure content aligns with messaging and goals.
  • Identify opportunities to repurpose and recut existing footage for various formats, including podcasts, social media, email, and site content.
  • Exercise strong editorial judgment in content selection, approval, and quality assurance, maintaining a consistent voice and storytelling standard.
  • Support rapid-response opportunities as needed to ensure timely and sensitive coverage.

Media Management

  • Oversee the end-to-end media management process, including ingesting, organizing, tagging, storing, and backing up of all video assets for easy retrieval and reuse.
  • Organize and transfer raw footage to secured digital storage systems, ensuring proper file naming conventions and backups.
  • Build and organize internal video stock library and optimize greatest clips.

Story Producing & Capture

  • Support filming (iPhone, GoPro) for various types of content as needed such as medical coverage, rescues, interviews, tutorials, and event coverage.
  • Pitch ideas based on developing stories or opportunities.
  • Create shot-lists and provide direction to volunteers.

Qualifications:

  • 2-3 years of experience in editing and video production.
  • Proficiency in video editing software (Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or similar) and social video formats.
  • Experience in Adobe Creative Suite
  • Strong understanding of YouTube’s platform, trends, and audience engagement strategies.
  • Basic proficiency in motion graphics and animation software (Adobe After Effects, Blender, or similar).
  • Demonstrated experience in storytelling and content creation with a portfolio of video work.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and experience managing content workflows, asset libraries, and project timelines.
  • Excellent communication skills, with a collaborative and proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Passion for animal welfare and a desire to develop a deep understanding of the issues causing overcrowded animal shelters and lack of affordable access to veterinary care.
