ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW

Foundation for a Just Society (FJS) envisions a world where all people are equally valued and lead self-determined lives. FJS advances the rights of women, girls, and LGBTQI people and promotes gender and racial justice by ensuring those most affected by injustice have the resources they need to cultivate the leadership and solutions that transform our world.

FJS makes grants to local, national, regional, and global organizations and networks with an emphasis on Francophone West Africa, Mesoamerica, South and Southeast Asia, and the US Southeast. FJS supports efforts that advance long-term, structural change and meet immediate needs that enable women, girls, and LGBTQI people most affected by injustice to be leaders, strategists, and agents of change.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Staff Accountant provides day-to-day accounting support to the Foundation for a Just Society and its subsidiaries, Hannah Charitable and FJS Legacy LLC.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES + RESPONSIBILITIES

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Prepare monthly journal entries, cash flow analyses, and account reconciliations and assist the controller with monthly close processes.
  • Prepare supporting schedules for the annual audit and Form 990-PF preparation.
  • Prepare budget to actual quarterly reports and support staff with the annual budgeting process.
  • Process vendor invoices and expense reimbursements in compliance with financial policies and procedures.
  • Provide assistance and guidance with credit card expense reports in Expensify. Research, resolve and communicate discrepancies and exceptions to the end users.
  • Ensure compliance around accounts payable processes (proper approval, coding, W-9, W-8 BEN, contract agreements). 
  • Provide finance related onboarding for new staff.
  • Update, create and maintain vendor records and answer vendors’ inquiries regarding bill payments.
  • Respond to information requests and assist with annual audits.  
  • Maintain finance, insurance and legal electronic and physical files.
  • Take on additional responsibilities and special projects as needed.
  • Provide exemplary customer service to all staff.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Demonstrated commitment to the Foundation’s vision and mission and deep alignment with its values.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting required or 8 years of relevant work experience. 
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant accounting experience. 
  • Working knowledge of GAAP.
  • Tech-savvy and comfortable embracing new systems and tools.
  • Strong numeracy and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. 
  • Excellent problem-solving and time management skills.
  • Competency in Accounting software packages. Working knowledge of QuickBooks is preferred.
  • Solid judgment; critical thinking skills; a sense of teamwork and community.
  • Experience working or volunteering in the women’s human rights and social justice movements.
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-changing environment and remain flexible in a growing organization
  • Eligibility to work in the United States.
  • Willingness to travel to participate in staff retreats. 
  • All staff are expected to be fully vaccinated and show proof of vaccination on, or before the official start date. Failure to provide proof of vaccination will result in revocation of FJS’s offer of employment.

COMPENSATION AND CULTURE

Salary Range: $70,720 – $88,400 Depending on experience
