Girls Who Code is an international nonprofit organization working to close the gender gap in technology, and leading the movement to inspire, educate, and equip students who identify as girls or nonbinary with the computing skills needed to pursue 21st century opportunities. Since launching in 2012, Girls Who Code has reached 500,000 students through our in-person and virtual programming, and 115,000 of our alumni are college or career-aged.

Position summary:

The Finance Manager will help run smooth Finance and Administration operations. In this role, they will report directly to our Chief Financial Officer. They will implement and monitor Finance and Administration business processes and perform routine audits to identify areas of improvement, with a particular focus on grant proposals and management. The Finance Manager will also help implement new policies, systems, or controls designed to reduce risk. They will support and educate our teams on Finance matters and will project manage our work with an outsourced Fiscal Management provider.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Partners with Budget Owners across the organization to develop the annual budget and maintains accurate forecasts on a monthly basis, incorporating grant commitments to future spending plans;
  • Works with our fundraising team to develop grant proposals and provide financial administration of a diverse portfolio of private and public grants, ensuring that they are administered in a fiscally responsible manner;
  • Manages and supports our outsourced Fiscal Management Provider and Auditors. The outsourced team includes a Controller, Accounting, and Accounts Payables and Receivables support;
  • Implement and Monitor policies, systems, and controls to ensure smooth Finance and Administration operations and mitigate risk; Identify opportunities to streamline and improve processes, providing input for automating processes, and actively implementing changes, as needed
  • Supports and trains teams across the organization with their Finance needs, providing timely and comprehensive responses to their needs
  • Actively manages registrations, including entity and charitable solicitation registrations, state and local employment registration requirements, and regulatory correspondence
  • Assists in the preparation of materials for board reports, staff meetings, and executive leadership meetings
  • Organize and prepare for meetings to include conducting research as requested, collecting and drafting agendas, coordinating technology, etc. Attend meetings as needed and record and distribute minutes.
  • Performs special projects and other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • At least 4 years of relevant experience in Financial Planning & Analysis or Accounting functions
  • A bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Accounting or a related field is preferred
  • Outstanding project management skills, excellent in managing shifting timelines and priorities, able to accurately and thoroughly follow-through, able to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Impeccable judgment and ability to handle confidential information
  • Results-oriented: creative and tenacious in accomplishing tasks, positive and calm attitude with inclination to view problems as challenges and enjoy finding solutions
  • Must be comfortable working with databases and reporting tools
  • Must be able to demonstrate excellent organizational, analytical, critical thinking, interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
  • Must be able to work well with all levels of employees, be flexible in nature, have sound judgment with an open and collaborative style
