Summary 

Global Kids, Inc. seeks dynamic, hard-working, and creative individuals experienced in youth development, global education, and social action who are interested in working full-time in our Community School programs. The School Climate Coordinator will work with the GK Community School team, school faculty and administration, students, and families to support the goals of GK’s work and mission at the school. The School Climate Coordinator is responsible for leading the Global Kids team’s efforts to help develop a more positive and harmonious school climate that maximizes’ students’ ability to attend school and achieve academic and social success. The School Climate Coordinator will work closely with the school’s PBIS Coordinator to effectuate the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports framework at John Adams High School, where Global Kids (GK) serves as the lead community school partner. The School Climate Coordinator will also be tasked with family outreach and home visits. 

 

 

Responsibilities Include: 

 

  • Collaborate with Global Kids and John Adams staff (particularly the PBIS Coordinator) to increase the positivity, safety, and student empowerment aspects of the John Adams school community. 
  • Attend weekly PBIS meetings both in and out of the building and provide turn-key knowledge to staff members 
  • Collaborate with PBIS students and staff to push lesson creation and presentation every month 
  • Coordinate Student RACK EM UP redemptions- a previously developed incentive system that rewards positive behaviors for students and staff 
  • Assist with student mediations 
  • Provide SEL support to students  
  • Work with the PBIS/MTSS staff to ensure that all students receive services throughout the tiers. 
  • Use PBIS attendance referral data to provide interventions 
  • Collaborate with Northwell clinic for tier 2 and 3 supports 
  • Attending Pupil Personnel Team meetings and providing input on student support and services 
  • Be the prime coordinator of collaboration between GK and John Adams HS on PBIS-related issues under the supervision of GK’s Community School Director  
  • Work with the Small Learning Community (SLC)teams to help address minor classroom management issues, run or co-run mediations, and act as a pathway to solve minor student/teacher issues, following the ladder of discipline and PBIS 
  • Collaborate with GK’s Restorative Justice Specialist in developing a strong restorative justice structure and culture 
  • Work with the COSA to develop PBIS identity through the creation of PBIS-specific awards, activities, and clubs 
  • Work with the SLC Directors, AP Supervisions, and UFT Teacher Center Staff Developer to plan, develop, and present PBIS-related professional developments each month to each SLC. 
  • Manage internal PBIS-related Google Applications 
  • Design and implement SLC and in-class PBIS lessons for staff and students. 
  • Work with the Deans’ office on sweep room and mediation 
  • Assist in the coordination and effectuation of after-school events designed to promote/publicize Global Kids/JAHS 
  • Coordinate PBIS consultation visits with students in and out of the school 
  • Collaborate with DOE/Department of Health behavior specialists 
  • Analyze Data Trends to reflect and revise PBIS practices 
  • Progress monitor Tier 1-3 PBIS Systems 
  • Conduct home visits when and where necessary 
  • Support GK programs as needed and appropriate at the direction of the CSD  

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and five years of relevant professional experience or a master’s degree in a related field and two years of relevant professional experience. 
  • Excellent communication, writing, organizational, and computer skills. 
  • Knowledge of and passion for global issues, political science, history, education, social justice, and human rights. 
  • Excellent project management and interpersonal skills. 
  • Positive youth development and interactive training experience, particularly with high school youth   
  • Commitment to and understanding working in culturally diverse settings and using antiracist pedagogical practices. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with school personnel. 
  • Strong ability to communicate with parents respectfully and to earn their trust, especially in difficult interview situations involving sensitive and challenging situations with youth. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of SAVE legislation and PBIS. 
  • Experience coordinating, planning, and delivering professional development for teachers and school staff. 
  • Highly organized and efficient with administrative tasks. 
  • Experience working in or with NYC public schools and a strong understanding of the NYC Community Schools Initiative and goals is a plus. 
  • Experience with Google Applications, Google Suite, Microsoft Suite, and other relevant systems 
  • Ability to effectively implement administrative policies and procedures. 
  • Knowledge and skills in cultural competency, cross-cultural communication, and equity work. 
  • Language skills are a plus (particularly in Spanish, Arabic, and South Asian languages). 

 

Salary/Benefits: This full-time, exempt position has an annual salary of $44,000. GK also offers affordable medical benefits, dental and life insurance, paid holidays, vacation time off, personal days, sick time, and possibilities for travel.
