Intro/Program Description: Goddard Riverside Community Center is working in collaboration with the New York City Department of Youth and Community Development and the New York City Housing Authority to provide evening teen center programming at Lincoln Square Neighborhood Center on the Upper Westside. Teen Center @ Lincoln Square Neighborhood Center is located within the Amsterdam Addition Housing Development and across from the Amsterdam Houses.

 

Purpose of Position: The GRCC Teen Center at Lincoln Square Neighborhood Center seeking a dynamic individual to provide specialized activities to youth including dance, art and technology. The Activity Specialist is an integral part of providing youth with activities that promote creativity and self-expression amongst youth that can be displayed during out showcase and talent show.

 

Schedule: The teen center operates Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM. 

 

Goddard Riverside and Isaacs Center follow the CDC and NYS recommendations to prevent the spread of COVID-19, and are now requiring all new hires to be vaccinated against COVID-19 unless they have a qualified exemption.

 

Roles, Responsibilities and Essential Duties:

  • Provide Direct Service to RISE Teen Center Youth Members 
  • Create projects with groups of high school youth in evening activity programs 
  • Facilitate interactive workshops designed in specialized activities such as science, technology, engineering, dance, visual arts, coding, performing arts and other specialized fields.  
  • Work with staff to enroll, engage and retain teen participants 
  • Maintain a safe learning environment  
  • Serve as a positive and engaging role model for participants. 
  • Maintain a high level of flexibility and professionalism at all times 
  • Enforce program rules, promote reflection and consequences for infractions  
  • Maintain attendance records for all facilitated activities  
  • Participate in program planning and assessment 
  • Assist with data entry. 
  • Attend supervision meetings 
  • Provide assistance with implementation of Covid-19 social distancing requirements as needed. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned 

Qualifications/Educational Requirements: 

  • Associates Degree required  
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working with a multi-cultural youth population required. 
  • Must clear SEL, SCR and Department of Education PETS clearances 

 

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: 

  • Strong leadership development with knowledge of specific specialty, dance, art, technology, etc. 
  • Demonstrated strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills 

 

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should be:  

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs specifically word, excel, access and outlook 

 

Physical Requirements: 

  • Frequent bending, kneeling, walking –include participating in program activities with program participants 

 

Work Environment 

  • Indoor/Outdoor /community center setting
