Overview

Intro/Program Description: Goddard Riverside Community Center (GRCC) is a well established Manhattan community based agency with an annual operating budget of approximately $ 30 million. GRCC is one of New York Citys leading human service organizations meeting the basic needs of children, youth and families, homeless people, and older adults through 25 plus programs at 22 sites across Manhattan.

 

Purpose of Position: To assist cook in providing health meals for the Goddard Riverside Senior Center

Schedule: Monday through Friday – 7:30am to 3:30pm

 

Goddard Riverside and Isaacs Center follow the CDC and NYS recommendations to prevent the spread of COVID-19, and are now requiring all new hires to be vaccinated against COVID-19 unless they have a qualified exemption.

Role, Responsibilities, and Essential Duties

1) Food preparation

  • Assist with food preparation and cooking for 120 meals per day
  • Serve lunch to elderly clients in the senior
  • Serve breakfast and lunch for special events for seniors

 

2) Kitchen maintenance

  • Clear dishes and all meal items
  • Wash dishes, pots, pans, other kitchen items
  • Wash all kitchen surfaces and tiles
  • Dispose of garbage
  • Clean pantry
  • Set up dining room tables and chairs
  • Wash tables and chairs in dining area
  • Assist with food deliveries and storage of food

 

3) Meal planning and reporting in head chef absence

  • Plan senior center lunch menus
  • Order food and monitor inventory
  • Oversee all food preparation, serving and clean-up
  • Ensure on-time meals and maintenance of safety standards
  • Prepare reports on food usage and cost

 

4) Senior center team member

  • Attend staff meetings, training programs, case conferences
  • Participate in program assessment and improvement plans
  • Assist in daily oversight of senior center and respond to emergencies
  • Other duties as required

 

Qualifications/Educational Requirements

  • Experience in food service and large meal planning
  • Qualifying Certificate Food Protection from NYC Health & Mental Hygiene Required

 

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Excellent cooking skills
  • Knowledge of commercial kitchen

 

Physical Requirements

  • Chopping, slicing and other movements associated with food preparation
  • Standing for prolonged periods of time
  • Lifting up to 50lbs
  • Occasional shopping trips to stores in the neighborhood

 

Work Environment

 

  • Kitchen and senior center (includes client contact)
