About Greenwich House:

Founded in 1902 as a settlement house to help New York’s increasing immigrant population adjust to life in a new country, Greenwich House today offers a variety of programs and approaches that continue to provide thousands of New Yorkers with health and welfare supports, education and personal enrichment, and skills building and cultural experiences.

About the Workforce Services Division:

The need for more workforce skills building, training, job placement, and support services was being felt across our city prior to COVID but like so many social services the pandemic grew this need particularly for vulnerable populations of adults and older adults. Against that backdrop Greenwich House sought to provide a new multi- and intergenerational workforce training center and hub for targeted undervalued populations of adults and older adults.

The Workforce Training and Resource Center will build upon Greenwich House’s past success providing vocational services to clients by bringing in a mix of promising or proven intergenerational and adult-focused workforce training programs, job development and placement, developing or leveraging existing relationships with local employers, and providing wrap around and case management services.

We are looking for a workforce service specialist who will support our older adult population by preparing them for the workforce and partnering with employers eager to benefit from a more mature, experienced employee. Greenwich House is endeavoring to be one of very few workforce service providers for the 60+ population and therefore are looking for someone innovative and capable of re-imagining the existing landscape. The specialist will work out of a newly renovated space in lower Manhattan in collaboration with a full team supporting efforts to make NYC the place where opportunity has no age limit.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage caseload of older adults seeking employment; initial service plan creation; placement and education services; regular follow up meetings.
  • Provide direct assistance with resume writing, mock interviewing, and basic employment skill sets.
  • Develop and run career readiness workshops as well as computer literacy support as needed.
  • Assess individual needs and maintain database documentation of progress relating to employment and participation in employment services.
  • Research, conduct outreach to, and build relationships with prospective employers willing to hire Greenwich House clientele and who have hiring needs that match the skills, experience, and interests of our overall participant cohort
  • Maintain relationships with existing employer partners and external program partners
  • Schedule and conduct daily prospecting, cold calls, and face-to-face meetings
  • Maintain case notes and relevant data and use metrics to inform education and training as well as partnerships.
  • Perform other tasks and special projects as assigned by the direct supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • Prefer someone with 2-3 years of experience with non-profit workforce programming in the capacity of work readiness instruction, job development, and/or job placement.
  • Prefer someone with experience serving older adult populations in the capacity of case management, program delivery, job training and/or job coaching.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of workforce and/or social service landscape in NYC
  • Knowledge of labor market trends and ability to source data on market trends to inform service strategy
  • Creative, out of the box thinker who can thrive in the start-up phase of an economic mobility venture focused on opportunity seeking older adults.
  • Mission driven social justice advocate determined to close opportunity gaps and contribute to a more equitable NYC.
  • A.A. degree in sociology, economics, business development, human rights or related required. B.A. favorable but will consider direct service experience in place of education requirement.
