GrowNYC is a 51-year-old environmental nonprofit organization – helping more than 3 million New Yorkers by providing essential services and taking action to make NYC a livable city, one where every person can enjoy a healthier, more sustainable life.  

Our Programs:  

  • Our network of Greenmarkets, Farmstands, Fresh Food Box sites and GrowNYC Wholesale program ensures that all New Yorkers have access to the freshest, healthiest local food.  
  • We blanket the five boroughs with resources like textile and food scrap collection, Stop ‘N’ Swaps, as well as free training to make waste reduction easy for all.  
  • We build and support community and school gardens through volunteer days, technical assistance, training, grants and more.  
  • We provide 70,000 children each year with programs that provide meaningful interactions with the natural environment.

Sales Account Specialist

Position Summary

The Sales Account Specialist is a trusted advisor and partner to GrowNYC Wholesale customer organizations, including nonprofits, institutions, restaurants, retailers, and more. The Sales Account Specialist works to gain a detailed understanding of their customer’s needs, and quickly develop a strong knowledge of GrowNYC Wholesale product offerings and operations processes. They are able to communicate GrowNYC Wholesale’s value proposition verbally and in writing, and share our passion and mission for supporting local and regional farms, as well as our focus on food access and delivering farmers market quality food throughout New York City. In the short term, the position will require a greater focus on order entry, inventory management, and customer service. In the longer term, following an upcoming transition to a new software system, the position will allow for greater focus on relationship management and sales. The Sales Account Specialist reports directly to the Sales and Partnership Manager. 

Responsibilities (Include but are not limited to):

  • Develop, manage, and improve relationships with existing customer accounts
  • Communicate with customers via phone, email, and in person contact regarding GrowNYC Wholesale products promotions, seasonality, and customer needs. Primarily existing accounts, but may involve occasional cold calling
  • Express GrowNYC Wholesale’s value proposition with passion
  • Able to discuss Wholesale products and farms with enthusiasm and knowledge
  • Find ways to increase sales volume where appropriate and meet realistic sales targets
  • Track customer and product KPIs to understand opportunities and issues
  • Conduct periodic in-person visits to customers to strengthen relationships, deepen understanding, and contribute to customer success.
  • Enter orders and maintain inventory
  • Maintain customer records 
  • Offer responsive customer service regarding questions and issues. Respond to customer complaints and develop solutions. 
  • Master GrowNYC Wholesale’s Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software, and guide customers through process of using our upcoming e-commerce portal
  • Work closely and well with procurement and operations departments.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Excellent time management, ability to multi-tasking and prioritize tasks
  • Strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills
  • Genuine enthusiasm for a relationship-oriented role, as well as for GrowNYC Wholesale’s mission
  • Robust computer skills including use of Microsoft Office, Google products, and ability to learn order management and inventory management systems
  • Organized, thorough, and accurate, with excellent attention to detail
  • Enthusiasm and willingness to learn
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative while also working in concert with team members according to established operational schedules
  • Familiar with regional farm products, or willingness to learn GrowNYC Wholesale product offerings quickly

Ideal Qualifications

  • 2+ years sales and/or customer service experience
  • NYC driver’s license 
  • Passionate about farming and local agriculture 
  • Fluency in multiple languages is a plus 

Schedule

Monday – Friday (9am-5pm). 

Compensation

This is a salaried non-exempt position. It pays $55,000-60,000 annually and includes full benefits (medical, dental, vision, life insurance, long-term disability, pension plan and paid time off). 

Location

Hybrid role including 3 days remote, 1 day in person from GrowNYC Wholesale’s Bronx warehouse, and 1 day from another GrowNYC work location.
