Overview

Hadassah, the Women’s Zionist Organization of America, is a volunteer organization that inspires a passion for and commitment to its partnership with the land and people of Israel. It enhances the health of people worldwide through its support of medical care and research at the Hadassah Medical Organization in Jerusalem. Hadassah empowers its members and supporters, as well as youth in Israel and America through opportunities for personal growth, education, advocacy and Jewish continuity. 

The Assistant General Counsel will handle general legal work including reviewing of matters, drafting documents, problem-solving, advising and consulting with the General Counsel on legal matters.  

Job Responsibilities   

  • Review and negotiate contracts, leases, advising on various legal issues including intellectual property, tax, real estate, and governance.  
  • Perform legal research and provide general advice on various matters.  
  • Oversee matters referred to outside counsel in the U.S., Israel and other foreign countries.  
  • Developing and conducting training for volunteers and staff on legal matters.  
  • Advise volunteers and staff on compliance matters including preparation of compliance policies and procedures for the organization.  
  • Other duties as assigned.   

Education and Experience   

  • Education or equivalent experience: Juris Doctor degree  
  • Admitted to New York State Bar  
  • 4 to 6 years minimum general legal practice (preference for real estate or corporate background)   

Required Knowledge and Abilities   

  • Knowledge of general corporate law, contracts, leases  
  • Ability to work with a diverse number of internal clients and outside business people  
  • Ability to negotiate and spot legal issues
