This is an outstanding opportunity to work in a fast-paced non-profit environment with dedicated colleagues in the areas of institutional relations and hone one’s grant writing skills. Reporting to the Institutional Advancement Manager, the Associate will be an integral member of the Development and External Relations team, working on foundation, corporate, and government proposals, contracts and reports, and assisting the Manager in the execution of cultivation and solicitation efforts. The Associate will have frequent interaction with program staff and organizational leadership. Typical work hours for this position are 9am-5pm, Monday-Friday with occasional evening and weekend hours.

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience; outstanding writing, communication and organizational skills; coordinate multiple projects, and to work both independently and flexibly as part of a team across programmatic disciplines in a high pressure, deadline-driven environment; willingness to learn and be challenged; attention to detail a must.

1+ years grant writing and related experience is preferred; familiarity with customer relations management systems, government grant and contracts database is a plus. Experience working with Raiser’s Edge a plus. 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Collect and enter accurate and up to date information and data into the database to ensure accurate record keeping and deadline management
  • Generate monthly Prospect and Status reports.
  • Draft proposals, reports, letters of inquiry and budgets to private foundations, corporations, and government agencies
  • Gather and maintain departmental files of agency official documents, ensure they are complete and current for submission to appropriate funders and government agencies
  • Support the Institutional Advancement Manager in the development of institutional advancement goals, strategies and tactics
  • Support the Institutional Advancement Manager and senior development and executive staff in coordinating the cultivation and stewardship process, including scheduling, providing meeting materials, research, and other tasks as needed
  • Research and identify prospective institutional funders
  • Gain understanding of organization and programmatic goals and priorities sufficient to identify appropriate funding opportunities
  • Monitor foundation and philanthropy news, including RFPs, foundation press releases, website updates, and announcements, and trends in institutional giving
  • Attend bidder’s conferences, workshops, and information sessions on potential proposal submissions
  • Complete other writing assignments and administrative support as requested
  • Engage in professional development and apply learned knowledge towards using evidence-based best practices 
  • Perform other duties as assigned
