The Human Rights Foundation (HRF) is seeking highly qualified applicants for the position of Development Intern.

HRF is a nonpartisan nonprofit organization that promotes and protects human rights globally, with a focus on closed societies. Our work includes effective campaigns to free political prisoners, world-class events such as the Oslo Freedom Forum, and programs such as Flash Drives for Freedom that publicize human rights violators and directly support dissidents and human rights defenders at risk.  

Overview of the position

The Development Intern will support the development team’s fundraising efforts by assisting with caseload management, research, and communications efforts. This position reports to Liz Shelbred and is part of the Strategy team.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Strategy team in its efforts to effectively cultivate donor relationships by researching individual, institutional, and corporate prospects
  • Help maintain donor and grant databases and files, including recording donations and tracking donor communications 
  • Assist with the donor thank you and gift acknowledgement process
  • Prepare and track research profiles used in cultivation and solicitation
  • Assist with mailings and other related administrative work, including data entry of new and existing supporters in databases 
  • Contribute to writing and editing communications with constituents
  • Support the Strategy team with event planning, including for the Oslo Freedom Forum, as needed 
  • Work on special projects as needed and assigned by the Strategy team

Requirements

  • A demonstrated interest in human rights
  • Computer proficiency required, including MS Office
  • Database experience, specifically with Salesforce or other CRM, preferred
  • Excellent data collection and research skills
  • Self-motivated team player with a high sense of urgency and ability to handle multiple projects at once 
  • Outstanding organizational skills; detail-oriented
  • Ability to handle sensitive/confidential information and be discreet
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills; possess a friendly, professional demeanor, and positive phone presence

Compensation

$1,500/month for full-time availability. Part-time work will be considered and prorated accordingly.
