Overview

Founded in 1972, the Jamaica Center for Arts & Learning (JCAL) is a multidisciplinary urban arts center based in Jamaica, Queens. Our mission is devoted to offering quality visual, performing, and literary arts, and to providing accessible education programs to encourage participation in the arts. We operate out of two landmark buildings: the Jamaica Arts Center, with five floors of galleries, artist studios, rehearsal spaces, a black-box theater and office space; and the Jamaica Performing Arts Center, a 400-seat, flexible proscenium theater.

Joining a two-person team and reporting to the JCAL Director of Education, the Program Associate shall provide administrative, operational and strategic support for the JCAL Education department, including initiatives and programs funded by New York City, foundations, corporate and individual supporters, and through earned income. Tasks and responsibilities include:

• Aligning implementation and operation of JCAL classes according to institutional best practices;

• Initiating and addressing email, phone and in-person inquiries from, and correspondence with, schools, teachers, students, parents, and relevant stakeholders;

• Facilitating communication among and between teaching artists and the institution;

• Ensuring collection, accuracy and submission of timesheets and other clerical items;

• Collecting data and documentation for grantors, public/private stakeholders and internal use;

• Assisting with rosters, budget projects/expenditures, and marketing on an as-needed basis;

• Distributing a written report whenever providing Saturday coverage;

• Procuring program supplies (e.g., visual arts materials, music books, costumes).

JCAL, an Equal Opportunity Employer, honors the values of its board-approved Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility Plan, with the goal of building and nurturing a culturally diverse, community responsive team.
