ABOUT MOUSE

Mouse is a national nonprofit that empowers all youth and educators to engage with computer science and creative technology to solve real problems and make meaningful change in our world. We focus on building competency, literacy, and dispositions for success in a digital age. We create partnerships, train educators, and scale computer science offerings across an entire school, system of schools, or sites.

We are seeking an enthusiastic NY-based educator with an educational background and some STEM + Coding experience. This individual will expand our K-12 educator support, ensuring that learners in NY and beyond are getting access to incredible computer science experiences, including curriculum internalization & curation, program management, and educator professional development.

ABOUT THIS ROLE

This role will be directly related to Mouse’s New York State Smart Start grant.

Reporting to the Director of Instructional Design, the Smart Start Facilitator will support the development, implementation and facilitation of curriculum in conjunction with the NYS Smart Start Grant. Responsibilities include providing curriculum development and subject matter expertise, developing materials, creating agendas for each Smart Start partner, and gathering and sharing feedback with Mouse.

Part-time employee will act as the lead facilitator to implement professional development workshops with an assigned cohort of teachers as a part of the Smart Start program.

The part-time employee will receive $52/hour for Smart Start preparation and facilitation. Hours will be specified by their manager.

SCHEDULE & LOCATION

Facilitators are expected to work from 7:30am – 3:00pm, including a 30-minute lunch break, each day of the professional development.

The dates for summer training are Monday, June 27th – Friday, July 1st 2022.

Three school year check-in sessions will take place from September 2022 through February 2023 on dates that are to-be-determined. Summer facilitators are not required to work school year check-in sessions, but they are given priority.

In-person professional development sessions will take place at:

Paid virtual training and onboarding sessions will take place during the month of June.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

This role is responsible for:

Facilitation

  1. Reviewing, customizing, and internalizing resources provided by Mouse to prepare for virtual professional development workshops
  2. Running virtual and in-person workshop sessions at the dates and times specified by Mouse
  3. Acting as the point of contact for participants with questions related to workshop content during, but not limited, to asynchronous working hours
  4. Collaborating with Support Facilitator to ensure workshop logistics are uninterrupted.
  • This includes, but is not limited to, logging into / arriving at the workshop 10-15 minutes early and staying in / at the workshop 10-15 minutes late to connect with your support facilitator
  • Ensuring Support Facilitator is completing their tasks such as documenting teacher attendance, reviewing teacher work and gathering all the reporting necessary for each district lead partner
  1. Gathering and sharing feedback with Mouse staff throughout the 2022-2023 school year regarding implementation of program

Requirements

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR IN A CANDIDATE

  • You have experience as a teacher (formally or informally) and are able to lead a portfolio of educators to growth and success.
  • Demonstrated success teaching in K-12 schools, university settings, or out-of-school programs (prior experience leading professional development for K-12 teachers or teaching adult learners is a plus)
  • Experience with K-12 computer science content, particularly in an educational setting (experience teaching AP CS or advanced programming topics is a plus)
  • You’re a stellar communicator – both written and verbal – and people coach. You have excellent organizational and problem-solving skills, including the capacity to coordinate details, multi-task and generate creative solutions
  • Highly organized with excellent project management and time-management skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a small or large team.
  • Tech skills required: experience with the Google Apps Suite (docs, slides, and sheets), experience using video conferencing tools (like Zoom, Google Meet, etc).

Tech skills preferred: experience with Slack or other productivity, collaboration and contact management tools, like Salesforce.
